Chinese enterprises wish to expand investment opportunities in Can Tho

On the afternoon of October 28, at Can Tho City Party Committee, the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee received and worked with the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Can Tho City, said that after merging administrative units, the city has built a development strategy with a new space and a new position. One of the areas the city is most interested in is foreign affairs, international cooperation, and calling for investment from foreign enterprises in the area. Cooperation with partners, especially Chinese enterprises, is one of Can Tho's high priorities in the coming time.

Can Tho City proposed to cooperate with Chinese partners in the fields of science, technology and innovation, industry, high-tech agriculture , agricultural processing, transportation and urban infrastructure, and smart cities. In addition, the city hopes to further strengthen cultural and artistic exchanges, education, and promote tourism development between the two sides in the coming time.

Mr. Duong Lap, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that in recent times, the city has created a favorable business environment for Chinese enterprises to invest in Can Tho as well as creating favorable conditions for the local Chinese community to live, study and work well. With its central location and being the hub of the Mekong Delta region, rich natural resources, after the merger of administrative units, Can Tho's development space has been expanded. The Consul General believes that with the management of the city government, Can Tho will develop even faster in the future.

Consul General Duong Lap affirmed that the cooperation between Can Tho city and Chinese localities and enterprises is increasingly effective and in-depth. A typical example is the Can Tho waste-to-energy plant invested by Everbright Environment Company, capable of processing more than 400 tons of household waste per day, accounting for 60% of the city's collected waste. Last April, BESTWAY Group invested 300 million USD to build a factory in Can Tho, expected to create more than 5,000 direct jobs. In the coming time, the Consul General hopes to connect Chinese enterprises to invest in Can Tho in areas such as: agriculture, import-export and processing of agricultural and aquatic products; processing industry; wind power; climate change response; tourism; education...; at the same time, propose to open a cargo flight route between Can Tho city and Henan province of China.

Can Tho City currently has 33 FDI projects with investment capital from China with a total registered investment capital of about 930 million USD. The export turnover of goods to China in the first 9 months of 2025 was 102.75 million USD, the import turnover was 79.5 million USD. The main import and export items are rice, aquatic products, agricultural products and processed agricultural products, garments, feathers, pharmaceutical ingredients, agricultural chemicals, veterinary drugs, fertilizers, chemicals, and fabrics.
