On the afternoon of December 11th, the Vietnam U22 team won 2-0 against the Malaysia U22 team, thus finishing first in Group B and officially securing a place in the semi-finals of the SEA Games 33.
According to the tournament format, the top 3 teams in each group, along with the best-performing second-placed team, will advance to the semi-finals. Before U22 Vietnam, U22 Philippines was the first team to secure a place in the next round in Group C.
The remaining two spots are being fiercely contested between four teams: hosts U22 Thailand and U22 Timor-Leste (Group A), U22 Indonesia and U22 Myanmar (Group C).
In Group A, U22 Thailand only needs a draw against U22 Singapore in the match at 7 PM on December 11th to secure first place in the group and advance to the semi-finals.
In Group C, an opportunity opens up for U22 Indonesia as they face U22 Myanmar in the final match. Because U22 Malaysia lost 0-2 to Vietnam, the yellow-and-black team only has a goal difference of +1. Therefore, if Indonesia (goal difference -1) wins against Myanmar by a margin of 3 goals or more, the defending champions will advance to the semi-finals.

The four strongest teams in the semi-finals will be divided into two pairs. The winning team will advance to the final to compete for the gold medal, while the losing team will compete for the bronze medal.
According to the SEA Games 33 technical handbook, if U22 Thailand finishes first in Group A, they will face the best-performing second-placed team in the semi-finals, while U22 Vietnam could face the Philippines.
From the semi-finals onwards, matches are played in a knockout format. If tied after 90 minutes, the two teams will play extra time (two halves, each 15 minutes long). If still tied, a penalty shootout will be used to determine the winner.
