On the morning of November 7, Mr. Nguyen Huynh Trung - Head of the An Giang Irrigation Sub-Department - said that An Giang has announced the closure of the Cai Lon - Cai Be sluice cluster and Xeo Ro sluice in An Bien and Binh An communes to support drainage and prevent flooding due to high tides, especially the impact of storm Kameagi (storm No. 13).
Accordingly, from November 6 to 10, the relevant unit will operate and close a maximum of 11 Cai Lon sluice gates; Cai Be sluice will close 2 gates and Xeo Ro sluice will close when requested.
To protect people's agricultural production and aquaculture, An Giang requested the People's Committees of communes and wards located downstream of the project (seaside) to support people in building dikes to limit flooding.
Households living along Cai Lon - Cai Be culvert and Xeo Ro culvert need to proactively respond and move their belongings to a safe place.
Water vehicles passing through the above culvert must pay attention to the signaling system (signs, lights, sounds) and instructions from the on-site regulatory force to ensure safety of inland waterway traffic.
Previously, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province informed that floods combined with high tides in recent days have partially submerged 163 houses and inundated about 74 hectares of fruit trees in Tan Hiep and Hoa Thuan communes; 4 landslides and land subsidence incidents occurred in Binh My, My Hoa Hung, Chau Phong communes and Tinh Bien ward (An Giang); 1 wooden bridge completely collapsed, with an estimated total damage of more than 2.2 billion VND.
