“I never thought I would have a house like this,” said Mr. Hua Van Phuoc, a worker at Kien Hung Joint Stock Company, emotionally when receiving the “Union Shelter” house. Mr. Phuoc is the main breadwinner in a family with two school-age children, and his wife is a hired worker. Having worked for more than 10 years at Kien Hung Joint Stock Company, Mr. Phuoc’s income is about 7 million VND/month. His family’s thatched house is seriously degraded, leaking in the rainy season and sweltering in the hot summer season. Thanks to the timely introduction from the grassroots union, Mr. Phuoc received 50 million VND from the Provincial Federation of Labor from the “Union Shelter” fund, and his family contributed 15 million VND to build a new, spacious and cozy house. “Having a house makes me feel secure in working to raise my children,” said Mr. Phuoc.

According to Mr. Le Chi Dung - Chairman of the Kien Hung Joint Stock Company's Trade Union, Mr. Phuoc is a long-time union member working at the company and is in a particularly difficult situation. When there was a housing support selection round from the Provincial Labor Federation, the trade union gave priority to Mr. Dung.
In Thanh Hung hamlet, Thanh Loc commune, Ms. Mai Thi Thieu - a union member working at An Giang Newspaper, Radio and Television received support to build a new house from the "Union Shelter" fund. Previously, Ms. Thieu and her young child lived at her mother's house. With a small salary, she did not dare to think about having a new house. "Having a house to protect me from the sun and rain is my dream. I thank the An Giang Newspaper, Radio and Television Union and the Provincial Labor Federation for creating conditions for me to have a stable place to live," Ms. Thieu shared.
Mr. Phuoc and Ms. Thieu are two of hundreds of union members and workers in difficult circumstances who have received housing support from the “Union Shelter” model of the Provincial Federation of Labor. Each shelter is built with close coordination between the Union, businesses and local authorities. The grassroots union reviews, proposes the right beneficiaries, promptly mobilizes and coordinates implementation. In addition to providing housing support for union members, the Provincial Labor Federation also gives scholarships to union members' children in difficult circumstances, supports workers who have occupational accidents, organizes the program "Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Ket Ket", coordinates periodic health check-ups, dialogues between employees and employers, etc. Mr. Do Tran Thinh - Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Labor Federation said: "We consider housing support for union members in difficult circumstances an important part of the mass mobilization work of the Trade Union organization. Each house built not only helps union members stabilize their lives but also motivates them to feel secure in their work and in the organization."
Each house is a timely sharing, demonstrating the responsibility and heart of the Trade Union organization towards its members. The model of “Trade Union Shelter” is a humane spiritual encouragement, contributing to enhancing the position, prestige and influence of the Trade Union organization.
From 2024 to the first 6 months of 2025, the Provincial Federation of Labor will hand over 347 "Union Shelters" with a total cost of more than 14.5 billion VND to union members with difficult housing circumstances, of which each house will receive 50 million VND in support from the "Union Shelter" fund. |
