On May 6, the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) held a ceremony to announce the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) 2024. Accordingly, Dong Thap is one of the 10 provinces and cities with excellent economic management quality and is in the group of provinces and cities with the highest PCI score in 2024; it is one of the 3 provinces in the Mekong Delta region (along with Long An and Hau Giang) to be ranked this time.
Notably, the province's PCI 2024 score this year reached 70.35 points, an increase of 0.69 points compared to 2023. Of the 10 component indices, Dong Thap province had 4 indices that increased in points compared to 2023. Notably, the component indices were highly appreciated by the business community such as: Business support policies reached 7.41 points (up 1.2 points), market entry reached 8.43 points (up 0.93 points), labor training reached 6.25 points (up 0.65 points), transparency reached 7.39 points (up 0.11 points). These results demonstrate the strong efforts of Dong Thap provincial authorities at all levels in enhancing competitiveness and improving the local investment environment.
PCI 2024 marks the 20-year journey of this index being born and published in Vietnam. This is also the 19th year Dong Thap has participated and also the 17th consecutive year (2008 - 2024) that the province has been in the leading group nationwide - a proud achievement, affirming the commitment to strong, consistent and substantive reform.
Along with PCI, in 2024, Dong Thap province has excelled in the Provincial Green Index (PGI), rising from 18th place in 2023 to 7th place nationwide in 2024, with the following component indexes: Minimizing pollution and natural disasters (7.65 points); ensuring compliance (7.45 points); promoting green practices (6.28 points); incentive policies and support services (6.03 points).
This is the third year that VCCI has published the Provincial Green Index. Accordingly, a province or city is considered to have good environmental governance when it makes efforts to prevent and reduce environmental pollution and natural disaster risks; develops and enforces reasonable regulations and measures to ensure compliance with environmental laws without creating too much burden on businesses; provides guidance and full dissemination of green practices and focuses on green procurement; and finally, encourages "greening" of production and business models through specific policies and business support programs.
