Extreme and unusual natural disasters occurred continuously in August and it is forecasted that in September, many dangerous weather patterns will continue to occur.

August saw the appearance of four storms and tropical depressions.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in August, there were 2 storms and 2 tropical depressions in the East Sea, of which 2 storms and 1 tropical depression in mid-August directly affected our mainland.

Also in August, in the Northern provinces, there were many rainy days, including 4 widespread heavy rains on July 31-August 1, August 5-7, August 15-19, August 24-27 and August 29-31.

According to hydrometeorological experts, in August, natural disasters occurred in extreme and abnormal ways. Storms, storm circulations and heavy rains caused serious damage to people and property in many localities, especially the Central region.

Many dangerous weather patterns continue to appear in September

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that in September, nationwide, the average temperature was approximately the same as the average of many years in the same period, except in the Central Highlands and Southern regions, the average temperature was about 0.5-1 degree Celsius higher than the average of many years in the same period.

Heat waves are likely to appear locally in the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue and the South Central Coast, concentrated in the first half of September.

Referring to the rainfall trend, Deputy Head of Climate Forecasting Department Tran Thi Chuc said that the Northern Delta regions, provinces and cities from Thanh Hoa to Gia Lai have total rainfall generally higher than the average of many years by 10-25%, the remaining regions have total rainfall at approximately the same level as the average of many years in the same period.

"During the forecast period, the number of storms and tropical depressions in the East Sea region is at a level equivalent to the average of many years in the same period (the average of many years in the East Sea is 2.4 storms, making landfall in Vietnam is 1.2 storms) and may affect Vietnam's mainland," Deputy Head of Climate Forecasting Department Tran Thi Chuc noted.

The Northern Delta region and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai are likely to experience some widespread heavy rains. Other places across the country will have showers and thunderstorms for many days during the month, with some days possibly experiencing moderate to heavy rain.

Along with that, nationwide, there is still the possibility of dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Ms. Tran Thi Chuc warned that storms, tropical depressions and southwest monsoons cause strong winds, big waves at sea and affect boat operations.

In particular, it is necessary to guard against heavy rains that can cause floods and inundation in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas. Heavy rains, thunderstorms, tornadoes and lightning can negatively affect production activities and public health./.
