After a year of receiving monthly support from the Fund for Vietnamese Stature, Cao Ngoc Yen gave her mother a meaningful gift when she passed the 10th grade entrance exam at Ly Thai To High School, Thuan An City, Binh Duong Province.
In 2021, the For Vietnamese Stature Fund organized a fundraising program "Spreading True Happiness" and part of the funds from this activity were used to contribute to preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Fund sponsored 43 disadvantaged students affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, of which 16 were in Binh Duong alone. This is one of the provinces that suffered the most damage in the country during the pandemic.
Each savings book is worth 60,000,000 VND, equivalent to a support amount of 1,000,000 VND/month transferred through the child's guardian within 5 years.
The girl understands the story and continues her dream of going to school.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Yen's family was renting a room of only about 10 square meters near the Viet Huong Industrial Park, Thuan An City, Binh Duong Province. Her father passed away during the most intense outbreak, when Yen was in 6th grade and her twin siblings were in 2nd grade. Her mother, Quang Bich Thuy, raised 3 children on her salary as a garment worker, and began to struggle to overcome the pain of losing her partner while facing the hardship of raising her children alone.
Cao Ngoc Yen - 1 of 16 students in difficult circumstances due to Covid-19 in Binh Duong received support from the For Vietnamese Stature Fund.
Feeling sorry for her mother's hardship, Yen once asked her mother to let her quit school so she could stay home and help her mother. The young mother was determined that no matter how hard it was, she would send her three children to school. Every day, she sat at the sewing machine for 10-12 hours to earn extra income to take care of her children, so Thuy did not have time to take her three children to school. After discussing and agreeing, Yen's two younger brothers were sent to Soc Trang to live with their grandparents to continue their studies. Yen and her mother stayed in Binh Duong.
Since her father passed away, Yen has become more mature. She calculates and thinks ahead in everything to share with her mother. Every day, Yen rides her bike to school. At noon, when her friends stay at the boarding school, she rides her bike home to eat the meal her mother prepared in the morning, then rides her bike back to school to continue her afternoon class. Thanks to her diligence, Yen has been able to save her mother money for the boarding school.
Ms. Thuy said that all expenses for the mother and her four children are included in her mother's salary of nearly ten million dong. That is when the factory has work and can work overtime regularly. But there was a period when the factory only accepted office hours, income was even more limited, and the mother and children had to pay rent.
At that difficult time, saving every penny, Yen received support from the Fund for Vietnamese Stature.
"Each savings book is worth 60,000,000 VND, equivalent to a support amount of 1,000,000 VND/month and is received within 5 years. This is timely encouragement for my child and me. I will save this amount for Yen's education, so that she will never have to stop her dream of going to school, which is also one of my greatest hopes" - Ms. Bich Thuy shared.
The timely and fixed monthly support is reserved by the mother and daughter for Yen's education.
The timely and fixed monthly support has helped Yen and her mother regain their spirit to continue to strive in life with many difficulties. Whenever the factory increases production, Ms. Thuy signs up for overtime. As for Yen, not wanting to disappoint her mother and everyone's support, she is very self-motivated in studying and helping her mother with housework. While her friends take extra classes to improve their knowledge, Yen mostly studies by herself. And the result is well deserved when Yen recently passed the 10th grade exam.
"I am extremely grateful to the For Vietnamese Stature Fund for supporting me with my monthly living expenses. I know this is the care and love that the uncles and aunts in the Fund have for me, so that I can continue studying to pursue my dream of becoming a good accountant. I will try to have good achievements to report to you," Cao Ngoc Yen emotionally shared.
The little boy is strong
Trinh Trung Hau in Phu An commune, Ben Cat town, Binh Duong province is one of 16 children in Binh Duong receiving sponsorship from the For Vietnamese Stature Fund in a project to support children affected by Covid-19. His mother died of Covid-19, his father went to work far away, Hau and his sister born in 2005 depend on their grandmother who is over 70 years old and in poor health.
Hau bought books in advance to wait for going to school. But next year he will be healthy enough to go to school…
This year, Trinh Trung Hau is in 6th grade. While his peers are preparing for the midterm exams, he has not yet received a school or a class. Because at the end of July, Hau had to be hospitalized for severe pneumonia. For more than a month, he had to be transferred from the district hospital, to the provincial hospital, and then to Children's Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City. Near the start of the new school year, Hau was discharged from the hospital. The boy was very excited, but Hau's health was not yet good enough to go to school.
His grandmother said that in addition to pneumonia, Hau also suffered from a number of other dangerous diseases such as staphylococcal sepsis, pleural effusion, fungal infection, and venous thrombosis. It is known that there was a time when he was unconscious for many days, but with his strong will, the boy recovered and overcame the serious illness.
However, it took nearly two months after I was discharged from the hospital before I could move around again. That was the reason my grandmother did not let me go to school. She said I would probably take a year off to recuperate.
Hau whispered to her grandmother: "I can do this exercise, grandma"...
Despite his difficult circumstances, Trinh Trung Hau is very resilient and optimistic. Currently, his health is improving. When the weather is cool, his grandmother and he sit at the stone table in front of the house, flipping through new pages of the book, then the boy leans in to his grandmother's ear and brags loudly: "I can do this, grandma."
It turned out that before being hospitalized, because he was looking forward to going to a new school and was eager to meet new friends, Hau had convinced his older sister to buy a full set of 6th grade books. Thanks to self-study, Hau was able to do many exercises. When asked if he would be able to keep up with his friends if he were to go to school soon, the boy thought thoughtfully for a moment and then said loudly: "Yes, I will. I will study a little bit every day."
Hau's older sister, Trinh Thi My Nhu, has been the main breadwinner in the family for several years. After dropping out of school after Covid-19, My Nhu was hired by her mother's company as an administrative employee. Nhu said her salary is only enough to provide food for her and her grandmother, but with the support of relatives, life is less difficult.
It is valuable that since August 2023, Hau has been supported by the For Vietnamese Stature Fund with 1 million VND/month for 5 years under the sponsorship program for children orphaned by Covid-19. From the first day of receiving this support, My Nhu determined that this was the money specifically for Hau's education. Last July, exactly 1 year after receiving this sponsorship, Nhu spent that money to fully prepare books and new uniforms for her younger brother.
After a serious illness, Hau looks forward to going to school every day, while his grandmother and older sister hope for his health to recover. She said that Hau's tuition has been supported by the Fund, so she is not worried about Hau missing out on his studies, she just hopes he will get well soon and return to school.
Accompanying the Government in the fight against Covid-19, the For Vietnamese Stature Fund in collaboration with two units, TH Group and BAC A BANK, provided cash and in-kind support of up to VND 109 billion - up to the end of June 2022, for the frontline, hospitals and people. The fundraising program "Spreading True Happiness" launched in 2021, including activities to support children orphaned by Covid-19 as mentioned in the above article, is one of the outstanding accompanying activities of the Fund with the Government in the fight against the pandemic.
