The participating teams received souvenir flags from the organizing committee.
This year’s tournament has the participation of nearly 100 players from 5 provinces, cities and clubs including: Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Hanoi and Hoa Phuong Do Grandmasters Club. The players compete in 2 categories: Rapid Chess, Standard Chess for male and female players in age groups 11 and 16.
The organizers said the tournament is meant to promote the development of the Go movement in Vietnam.
After many years of development, Go has become an official sport in the national competition system, Vietnamese players have initially affirmed the country's position in the region. Although the achievements are still modest, they have also demonstrated the special ability of Vietnamese people in intellectual sports.
This year’s tournament continues to be an opportunity for players to showcase their talents, in order to select excellent players to represent the country’s chess community to participate in international tournaments this year. That is also the basis for believing that this year’s tournament will feature many attractive matches with high professional quality.
The tournament is also an opportunity to search and discover more outstanding faces for Vietnamese Go.
This is also the first time, through the Korea - Vietnam Friendship Association (KOVIFA), Hansoll Textile Group has accompanied the Vietnam Chess Federation to organize the 2023 National Go Championship to continue developing the Go movement in Vietnam and finding good players to participate in international tournaments.
After the opening ceremony this morning, May 21, the players played the first round of standard chess. The standard chess matches will last until May 24, followed by the rapid chess match. The closing ceremony and medal presentation of the tournament will take place on the afternoon of May 25.
