| EVNNPT received the investment certificate for the Nhon Hoi 220kV Transformer Station Project and the Phuoc An - Nhon Hoi connection line approved on June 2, 2025. |
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, has just signed a decision approving the investment policy and approving investors for two local transmission infrastructure projects in Gao commune.
Accordingly, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) was approved as the investor of the Project to build a new 500 kV Pleiku 2 transformer station connecting to 250 MVA level with a total investment capital of more than VND 290 billion (investor capital of more than VND 87 billion).
The project, invested by EVNNPT, has a designed capacity of 250 MVA; is implemented on an area of about 2.48 hectares; is expected to start construction in the third quarter of 2027 and be energized in the third quarter of 2028.
According to the People's Committee of Gia Lai province, the Project to build a new 500 kV Pleiku 2 transformer station with a 250 MVA connection level will help transmit and distribute electricity, to meet the province's load demand; enhance the ability to connect the regional power grid, improve the reliability, safety and stability of the power grid in the province.
At the same time, the project also helps release the capacity of renewable energy power plants in the region to the power system.
Meanwhile, the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) is the investor of the power line project connecting to the above EVNPNT transformer station.
Accordingly, the 110 kV Connection Project after the 500 kV Pleiku 2 Transformer Station has a total investment capital of more than 48 billion VND (investor capital of more than 17.9 billion VND).
The project aims to build a new 110 kV double-circuit line from the 220 kV substation connected to the 500 kV Pleiku 2 substation to the transition connection on the 110 kV Dien Hong - Chu Se line with a line length of about 4.452 km. The land area affected by the line corridor is more than 6.4 ha.
EVNCPC's project will start construction in March 2026 and is expected to be energized after 1 year of construction.
The project is implemented to effectively exploit the 110 kV feeders at the 220 kV transformer station connected to the 500 kV Pleiku 2 transformer station to ensure a stable long-term power source from the national power system; overcome the overload of the existing 110 kV grid, reduce power loss...
In addition, the project also creates a loop connecting the 110 kV lines between the 500 kV and 220 kV transformer stations in the area; improving the reliability of power supply to meet the N-1 criteria, improving the power supply capacity for the regional grid (specifically, the 110 kV Dien Hong transformer station supplies power mainly to the old Pleiku city, receiving direct power from the 2 transformer stations 500 kV Pleiku and 500 kV Pleiku 2; the 110 kV Chu Se transformer station will receive power mainly from 500 kV Pleiku 2).
As of mid-September 2025, Gia Lai province had a total of 87 commercially operating energy projects with a total capacity of 4,372 MW.
In addition, the province also has 20 wind power projects with a capacity of 2,055 MW and 6 solar power projects with a total capacity of nearly 310 MW that are in the process of completing investment procedures.
According to the plan by 2026, Gia Lai province will organize bidding for 57 wind power, solar power, small hydropower and biomass power projects with a total capacity of more than 3,000 MW...
This also poses a challenge to the power transmission infrastructure when the investment progress of the transmission grid is not synchronized, leading to the risk of overload when many projects operate simultaneously.
To solve the problem of the power transmission system, the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai province is continuing to propose the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance to direct the Vietnam Electricity Group and EVNNPT to allocate resources to invest in building transformer stations, increasing the ability to mobilize and release capacity to the grid.
The Central Power Corporation was approved for the 110kV Connection Project after the 220kV An Khe Substation (An Binh and Ngo May wards and Thanh An, An Phuoc and Song An communes of An Khe town, former Gia Lai province) with a total investment capital of 64 billion VND.
