Update gold price this afternoon 5/5/2025 in the world
At the time of trading at 3:00 p.m. on May 5, 2025 (Vietnam time), the world gold price recorded by Kitco was at 3,265.54 USD/ounce. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (26,180 VND/USD), the world gold price is equivalent to about 103.31 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Compared with the domestic SJC gold bar price on the same day (117.0-119.8 million VND/tael), the SJC gold price is currently about 16.48 million higher than the international gold price.

Gold prices on the world market today, May 5, 2025, world gold prices recorded a slight increase, supported by the weakening of the USD. This took place in the context that investors are waiting for new developments in trade relations between the US and China, as well as the important policy meeting of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) to take place this weekend.
Spot gold rose 0.6% to $3,259.29 an ounce at 06:23 GMT. US gold futures also rose 0.8% to $3,267.70 an ounce. The US dollar fell 0.3% against other currencies, making gold more attractive to investors holding other currencies.
The weakness in the US dollar ahead of the Fed meeting has created conditions for gold to rise slightly, according to Tim Waterer, a market analyst at KCM Trade. He predicts that gold prices may continue to fluctuate between $3,200 and $3,350 an ounce before the Fed makes a new policy decision. However, if there is any news related to the US-China trade deal, the gold market may be more volatile.
The market’s focus now is on the Fed’s monetary policy decision and speeches from senior officials this week. Traders now expect the Fed to cut interest rates by about 80 basis points this year, starting in July, after the US April jobs report showed a stronger-than-expected increase in the number of jobs.
Gold, which does not yield interest, is often seen as a safe haven in times of economic uncertainty and high inflation. Gold also tends to perform well in low-interest-rate environments, where the opportunity cost of holding the metal decreases. US President Donald Trump recently reiterated that he will not replace Fed Chairman Jerome Powell before his term ends in 2026. However, he has continued to call on the Fed to cut interest rates to support the economy.
In addition, Mr. Trump also said that the US is negotiating trade with many countries, including China. His top priority in the deal with China is to reach a fair trade agreement. Meanwhile, markets in China are closed for the Labor Day holiday from May 1-5 and will reopen tomorrow, May 6.
Besides gold, other precious metals also recorded an upward trend. Silver prices increased by 1.1% to $32.33/ounce. Platinum increased slightly by 0.1% to $961.20/ounce, while palladium increased by 0.5% to $958.38/ounce.
In general, the gold price today, May 5, 2025, on the world market is being supported by macro factors, including the weakening of the USD and expectations of the Fed cutting interest rates. New developments from the Fed's policy meeting and US-China trade relations will be the deciding factors for the next trend of gold prices in the coming time.
