According to Oilprice at 10:30 a.m. (Vietnam time), Brent oil price increased by 0.78%, to 66.87 USD/barrel, while WTI oil also increased similarly, to 63.02 USD/barrel.
Analyst Anh Pham from LSEG said that the pressure on oil prices mainly comes from concerns about oversupply from OPEC+, while global demand remains unclear due to trade tensions showing no signs of easing. A stronger US dollar also contributed to the downward pressure on crude oil prices.
Oil prices turned lower after a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman asserted that there were no ongoing consultations or tariff negotiations between China and the United States, contradicting earlier statements by US President Donald Trump, who said talks were progressing.
According to Saxo Bank analyst Ole Hansen, traders are now less hopeful about the possibility of oil prices continuing to rise in the short term, especially when trade tensions between major economies persist and there is speculation that OPEC+ will accelerate the process of increasing production from next June.
Oil prices earlier fell to a four-year low on concerns that new tariffs would weaken global demand and trigger a sell-off in financial markets. If demand declines while supply increases, oil prices will come under further downward pressure.
Reuters recently reported that some OPEC+ members have suggested the group consider increasing oil production for two consecutive months starting in June. In addition, the prospect of an end to the conflict in Ukraine is also considered a factor that could increase oil supply to the market if more Russian oil is allowed to flow again. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with CBS News that the US and Russia are close to a deal, although some details still need to be agreed.
