The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize has a winner.

Ms. Narges Mohammadi, born on April 21, 1972 in Zanjan, Iran. According to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, for her courageous struggle, she was sentenced to 31 years in prison.

Ms. Mohammadi was still in prison when the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the prize.

According to AP news agency, the Norwegian Nobel Committee consists of five members who are scholars and former independent politicians but are appointed by the Norwegian Parliament.

The committee said it received 351 nominations for this year's awards, the second-highest number ever, including 259 individual nominations and 92 institutional nominations. This is the eighth consecutive year with more than 300 nominations.

According to Al Jazeera , the prize money this year has increased by 10%, to about $1 million. The winner will also receive a gold medal and a diploma. The Nobel Foundation said it increased the amount this year because of its stronger financial situation.

The Nobel Peace Prize will have its own award ceremony in Oslo, Norway, on December 10, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, who left a will to establish the Nobel Foundation. The other Nobel Prizes are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden.

Last year, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to human rights activist Ales Bialiatski from Belarus, the Russian human rights organization Memorial and the Ukrainian human rights organization Center for Civil Liberties.

Opening this year's award season, on October 2, two scientists Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissma were honored at the announcement ceremony of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discoveries that laid the foundation for mRNA vaccine technology.

On October 3, three quantum physicists Anne L'Huillier (Lund University - Sweden), Ferenc Krausz (Max-Planck Institute for Quantum Optics - Germany) and Pierre Agostini (Ohio State University - USA) were jointly named with the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics.

The 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded on October 4 to three scientists who laid the foundation for quantum dots: Moungi G. Bawendi (Massachusetts Institute of Technology - USA), Louis E. Brus (Columbia University - USA), and Alexei I. Ekimov (former Scientific Director of Nanocrystals Technology Company - USA).

The 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded on October 5 to Norwegian author Jon Fosse for his plays and inventive prose that give voice to the unspeakable.

Closing the 2023 Nobel Prize season will be the Nobel Prize in Economics announcement ceremony on October 9.
