The zero-dong stall of doctors and nurses in the mountainous region of Quang Ngai has supported the poor in the mountainous region for the past 6 years.

In 2019, the “Zero-VND Booth” by the Youth Union of Son Tay District Medical Center officially opened near the campus of the District Medical Center. This is a place to share essential items such as milk, baby diapers, fish sauce, cooking oil, clothes, etc. by doctors and nurses from the District Medical Center and Quang Ngai province to help patients, relatives of patients undergoing treatment, and people in the mountainous area of Son Tay.

Sharing about the program idea, specialist doctor I Pham Huu Nghia, Son Tay District Medical Center, said that, stemming from witnessing too many cases of patients coming for treatment with difficult circumstances, with the desire to share the hardship with patients, doctors and nurses set up this booth.

According to doctors, many mothers come to Son Tay District Medical Center to give birth but often lack necessary items for newborns. Therefore, the team of doctors and nurses has prepared enough baby clothes and diapers from the “Zero-dong booth” to give to mothers. In addition, relatives of mothers can also come to the booth to receive clothes and milk support.

The zero-dong stall of the doctors and nurses is known by many benefactors, even people from Quang Ngai City, more than 80km away from Son Tay District, also came to donate old clothes and necessities to the stall. After receiving them, the doctors and nurses divided them up to wash and arrange them neatly in the stall so that patients and relatives can easily choose.

Dr. Huynh Thi Thuan, Deputy Director of Quang Ngai General Hospital, and other benefactors regularly support the booth with diapers, milk, and children's clothes, helping mothers in mountainous areas overcome difficulties due to the lack of essential items after giving birth, especially in limited economic conditions and difficult transportation. In particular, the Hematology Department (Provincial General Hospital) regularly donates old clothes and necessities to the booth twice a year.

The zero-dong stall, maintained for the past 6 years, has become a trusted address for people in the mountainous region of Son Tay. More than 18,000 boxes of milk, 1,000 bottles of fish sauce, cooking oil, 10 quintals of rice, thousands of sets of clothes, more than 1,000 pairs of sandals, and 500 school bags have been delivered to patients and their families.

The zero-dong booth is a social activity with profound humanitarian meaning, helping patients feel the care of doctors and nurses; at the same time, increasing the connection between medical staff and patients, encouraging and motivating patients to have more strength and will to fight the disease.
