The 0 VND clothing stall is located on Tran Minh Son Street, Thoi Nhut residential area, Tan An Ward, Can Tho City, open all day and night. The stall owner is Ms. Huynh Thuy Diem, a young girl born in 1991. The stall is the space in front of the house, designed like a real clothing store, with rows of clothes hanging straight, eye-catching, classified by area: children's clothes, jeans, autumn shirts, jackets... At 5 pm every day, the stall is supplemented with many new types of clothes, so that customers can freely choose and receive goods. Like that, the stall rarely has sellers, but only buyers, freely receiving goods as they like, no need to bargain, no need to calculate, all 0 VND.
Talking about the opportunity to create this charity model, Ms. Huynh Thuy Diem said that about 2 years ago, at her wedding dress shop on Mau Than Street, Cai Khe Ward, she organized a charity program to give 500 gifts to people in difficult circumstances, including noodles, rice, necessities, in addition to giving food and old clothes. The program created a great attraction, in which the clothing booth donated 10 tons of clothes in just 2 days. Many people came to receive and many people also brought gifts. From then on, she thought about maintaining this model for a long time. In addition, Ms. Diem also organized many campaigns to give old clothes to people in flood areas, highlands... "Currently, in Lai Chau province, I have coordinated with people to open 3 zero-dong clothing booths, maintaining effective operations", Ms. Thuy Diem said.
“The way of giving is better than what is given,” so Ms. Diem is very careful in every step from sorting, processing to hanging and serving customers. Any dirty clothes are washed clean, any clothes that are too bad will not be displayed. Although she does not buy or sell, she calls them customers so that everyone is aware that “the customer is king” and must serve them best. Therefore, the clothes are hung flat and solemnly, many recipients hesitate and have to ask again and again, “Are you really giving them away, miss?” Ms. Huynh Thi Mo, who is very proactive in sorting, washing and hanging clothes at the booth, said: “I always think that if I do it for my family, I will do the best. If the people who receive the clothes are happy, then I am happy too.”
At this booth, there is a special case, Ms. Truong Thi Kieu Hanh, who lives in An Binh ward and works as a lottery ticket seller. Ms. Hanh often receives clothes from this booth for her whole family to wear, so more than anyone, she feels the meaning of the model. So in the past few months, when she has free time, Ms. Hanh has come here to help sort and hang clothes to serve the people. Ms. Hanh said: "Diem's work is very meaningful, so I want to help a little. For people in difficulty like us, buying a set of clothes is a lot of trouble. At this zero-dong booth, many sets are as beautiful as new, my family wears clothes here all the time."
Another interesting point is that Ms. Diem has successfully conducted many online charity livestreams. That means that among the clothes she received, there were many fashionable clothes such as skirts, dresses, etc. that could not be given to people because there was no or very little demand. So she livestreamed to sell at cheap prices, and the money collected would be used to buy noodles, rice, and necessities to give to people in difficult circumstances.
Ms. Huynh Thuy Diem’s zero-dong stall is operating effectively and is gradually increasing in scale. Ms. Diem advises that those who do not use it can bring it and those who need it can come and receive it. The giver does not necessarily have to give much, but should give usable items, few but of good quality. “Old for others, new for us”, the clothes at this zero-dong stall bring joy to many people and make their beloved life more beautiful.
