Le Minh Chi, a recent high school graduate from Dong Anh High School ( Hanoi ), shared that after the high school graduation exam, she achieved a score of 26.5 points for the three A00 subject combinations. Initially, she was thrilled because that was also the score she had aimed for and had achieved.
However, after the Ministry of Education and Training published the percentile table, the conversion of scores between different subject combinations became quite novel. For the first time, 27 points for combination A00 was converted to 25.5 points for combination D01. Furthermore, each school had its own conversion table for scores between different admission methods, causing confusion and anxiety among candidates.
Minh Chi shared that she has completed "scattering" 19 nguyện vọng (preferences) across economics and logistics majors at various universities. "With the current point conversion method this year, I've lowered my goals compared to my original plan to ensure safety, and I don't dare 'gamble' by putting a top-tier university as my first choice like before," Chi said.

According to the female student, 12th-grade students recently had to go through many new things, from the curriculum, exam methods, exam structure to university admissions. Setting preferences to get into their dream major and university, and the reality of exam scores, became even more stressful.
After much deliberation and balancing between choosing a major and a university, I prioritized my chosen major and lowered my goals in the hope of being accepted into my preferred program at the University of Commerce, which is right near my home.
Disadvantage due to taking the exam without actual participation.
A student from Ninh Giang High School (Hai Phong) shared that this year, she registered for the D01 subject combination "without any foreign language certificates" (Mathematics, Literature, and English), achieving a score of 22.5 points in her university application, without any foreign language certificates or participation in aptitude or thinking skills assessment exams. She feels extremely disadvantaged because each university converts scores differently.
According to the male student, each university converts scores in a different way, leaving candidates feeling lost in a "maze." What he finds confusing is that an economics school includes Geography and History as supplementary criteria.
For example, the University of Economics (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) adjusted its requirements, stating that the total score of any two subjects in the combination (excluding English) using the method of international English certificates combined with high school academic results (including Literature + History/or Literature + Geography) must be 15 points or higher in the high school graduation exam.
With cut-off scores difficult to predict, the male student said he had listed 15 options but still didn't feel secure. He will continue to closely monitor the schools and expert predictions so he can make further changes if necessary.
According to the male student, "Most schools that consider foreign language certificates are at a disadvantage for students in rural areas, disadvantaged regions, and those from underprivileged families. I think foreign language certificates should only be a factor for adding points instead of being converted into points as they are now. If this isn't adjusted, in the future, whether they like it or not, students will have to rush to get certificates. In reality, to obtain a foreign language certificate, students have to spend a considerable amount of money on extra classes and exam preparation."
According to experts, this year's cutoff scores are difficult to predict, so the advice is that students should base their application choices on their high school graduation exam scores, aptitude test results, and critical thinking assessment results. Increasing the number of choices will increase the chances of admission. Note that all applications must be registered on the Ministry of Education and Training's admissions support system between July 16th and 5 PM on July 28th.
According to Mr. Vu Khac Ngoc, a chemistry teacher in Hanoi, predicting the 2025 university entrance exam cutoff scores is difficult due to numerous influencing factors. He predicts that the cutoff scores may set a new benchmark.
However, Mr. Ngoc believes that since the Ministry of Education and Training does not limit the number of nguyện vọng (applications/preferences), students need to have a strategy to arrange their preferences logically according to groups of majors and schools they like but whose entrance scores in previous years were higher than their exam scores; groups of majors and schools they like and whose previous year's cutoff scores were equal to their exam scores; and groups of majors and schools they like but whose previous year's admission scores were lower than their exam scores.
In the context of a volatile admissions landscape, admissions experts advise that candidates must proactively gather information and thoroughly understand the admission methods and score conversion procedures of different universities.
Many candidates are confused by the ranking table, trying to determine their position to adjust their preferences. But that's unnecessary. Focus on the minimum passing score – that's the real basis for your application decision.
In particular, experts advise that while university is a major turning point, choosing the wrong major can derail your academic and career journey, wasting time and money. It's crucial to choose a major that truly aligns with your passions and personal goals.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, from July 16th to 5 PM on July 28th, candidates can register, adjust, and supplement their college application preferences an unlimited number of times. The preferences are ranked from 1 to the last and will be processed on the system. Each candidate will only be admitted to the highest-ranked preference among those registered, provided they meet the admission requirements.

Parents and candidates continuously come in person to register their first choice at UEF.

Incorrect score conversion system leaves candidates feeling unfairly treated.

The minimum admission score for military schools is 14.5 points.
