Wrapping jars of meat and sticky rice to send to people in flooded areas in Central Vietnam

In the last days of October, while floods were still submerging many areas in Hue and Da Nang, in Quang Ngai - where the sun had just risen, the Quang Ngai volunteer group was busy preparing gifts to send to the flooded areas of the Central region, carrying the meaning of sharing in times of trouble.

At the small house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh (35 years old, Cam Thanh ward), the atmosphere these past days has always been bustling with the sounds of cooking and wrapping. Banh tet, jars of pickled meat, sticky rice balls… are carefully wrapped, full of human affection.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh's house became a place where women gathered to cook and pack necessities to send to people in flood-affected areas.

This meaningful activity was initiated by the Quang Ngai volunteer group, in coordination with the Women's Union of Cam Thanh Ward and local people. More than 1,000 kg of sticky rice, 200 jars of fish sauce, many banh chung, banh tet, and essential foods were hastily prepared to be delivered to people in flooded areas.

The group will prepare meat, sticky rice, banh chung, banh tet... If people need anything, we will support them, and wherever there are difficulties, we will join hands to support them.”

Ms. Ut Bach Lan (Nghia Lo ward) shared: “The Central region is struggling with storms and floods, many places are isolated, houses are deeply flooded. Everyone contributes a hand to share the difficulties with the people. The group calls for joint efforts to help people from Da Nang, Hue to Quang Ngai, whoever has anything contributes, together towards the flooded areas.”

Children also join in helping

The charity group called for donations on social media. When they heard about the group’s call for donations to help flood victims, many people responded. Those who had money contributed money, those who had work contributed labor. Everyone was busy, each with their own tasks. Many people put aside their family chores to join hands so that the meals could be completed soon and delivered to the people.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Phuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, President of the Women's Union of Cam Thanh Ward, said: "When the volunteer group proposed, the locality immediately joined in. Although it is a small amount, the heart is big, everyone wants to contribute something to the people in the flood area."

It is expected that this week or early next week, the Association and volunteer groups will continue to organize a new campaign, targeting localities heavily affected by floods, with the hope that "no one is left behind in natural disasters".
