On September 9th, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training held the opening ceremony for a training course on English and teaching methods for teachers of Mathematics, Science , Physics, Chemistry, and Informatics, based on the Cambridge dual-degree program, with the participation of 100 outstanding teachers.

This is a strategically significant activity in the implementation of the National Foreign Language Project; it concretizes the Hanoi City People's Committee's plan on teaching and learning foreign languages in secondary schools until 2025; and it demonstrates the determination of the Capital's Education sector to improve the quality of its teaching staff, ready for integration and to meet international standards.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said: Over the past four years, hundreds of teachers have received training in foreign language skills and advanced pedagogical methods, enabling them to teach subjects in English according to the Cambridge dual-degree standard - a model that is being effectively implemented in many secondary schools in the city.

This year's course is the fifth consecutive year it has been held and also the final year in the training program approved by the Hanoi People's Committee. This course is also fully consistent with the spirit of two important legal documents recently issued by the Government: Decree No. 202 stipulating the conditions, procedures, and processes for implementing educational partnerships; and Decree No. 222 on teaching and learning in foreign languages in educational institutions.

Reiterating the education sector's policy of training a generation of global citizens, Mr. Tran The Cuong informed: In previous years, the average English score of students in schools in remote and disadvantaged areas was only 2-3 points, but now it has reached over 5 points. This is the driving force for the entire sector to work together to fulfill the mission and goal of training global citizens.

“The organizers hope that each teacher will participate in the course with a receptive, serious, creative, and disciplined spirit, maximizing their responsibility and proactively improving themselves. The success of the course is not only measured by the number of hours of study or the certificates obtained, but more importantly by the change in thinking, teaching methods, language skills, and self-confidence of each teacher after completing the program,” said Mr. Tran The Cuong.

At the opening ceremony, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training assigned tasks to relevant units, including managing, monitoring, and supporting the course; proposing a roadmap for replicating the model and preparing resources for subsequent training courses; advising on mechanisms for the use, placement, evaluation, and recognition of teachers' learning outcomes after completing the course…
