Customs 'tightens' iPhone 15 smuggling by air

Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has just issued an official dispatch directing its subordinate units to strengthen the fight against smuggling and trade fraud of some new electronic products and prohibited goods...

Official dispatch implementing the direction of the Anti-smuggling Investigation Department (General Department of Customs) on strengthening inspection and control of smuggled electronic telecommunications equipment and iPhones on air routes; Plan 4663 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on improving the effectiveness of prevention, detection, inspection and handling of violations related to shisha, laughing gas and electronic cigarettes in the area.

iPhone 15 smuggled into Vietnam was discovered by Tan Son Nhat Customs on September 23.

Specifically, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department requested units to proactively collect information, exchange customs professional information to grasp the situation in the management area; patrol and strictly control import and export goods, means of entry and exit, luggage of passengers entering and exiting the country, synchronously apply customs control measures; promptly prevent, arrest, and handle acts of smuggling and illegal transportation of some key goods in the coming time.

Regarding the iPhone 15, the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department directed units to strengthen their grasp of the local situation, collect information, review, and make a list of businesses and high-risk subjects. In particular, subjects belonging to the group of passengers on flights from Singapore, the US, Japan... to Vietnam have many potential risks of smuggling and illegal cross-border transportation of electronic equipment, to be included in the key inspection and supervision. Strengthen the implementation of screening of goods and luggage at all screening locations to promptly identify suspicious subjects before conducting actual inspections.

For shisha, laughing gas, electronic cigarettes... implement measures to inspect and control import and export activities; transport goods; means of entry and exit by sea and air; promptly detect, prevent and handle the import of shisha, laughing gas, electronic cigarettes contrary to the provisions of law. Timely exchange information with relevant agencies to serve post-inspection work, strictly combat and handle violations according to the provisions of law.

Previously, on September 22 and 23, the Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch and the Southern Anti-Smuggling Control Team - Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department (General Department of Customs) coordinated with functional forces to inspect and detect 2 passengers entering Vietnam from Singapore and Thailand through Tan Son Nhat International Airport, carrying 36 iPhone 15 Pro Max. All were not declared to customs when completing entry procedures.

Currently, these two cases have been handed over by the customs agency to the Ho Chi Minh City Police for further investigation and handling according to their authority.
