Movement of composing propaganda songs

Composer Quoc Chung, author of the song "Khát vọng sông Lam" (Aspiration of the Lam River) , which has been performed in many commemorative programs for major events, shared: "Motivational music not only attracts audiences during the event but also has the power to spread and continue the love for our homeland and country for a long time."

The song " Khát vọng sông Lam" (Aspiration of the Lam River ) was commissioned by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the New Year 2024 event - and was also selected by the Provincial Arts Council to be performed at the National Music and Dance Festival held in Binh Duong in the same year.

The song was arranged for a male-female ensemble, accompanied by dance, with beautiful lyrics, imbued with Nghe Tinh culture, written by People's Artist An Ninh. The music was written by musician Quoc Chung for choir with high, resounding notes and low notes expressing the passion imbued with Nghe folk songs.

Musician Quoc Chung expressed that "tailor-made" songs, at first glance, seem to lack emotion and are a bit forced, but if the musician finds the right direction and gets the idea for the song, the result will be very satisfying. Many motivational songs still live forever thanks to catchy melodies, simple, easy-to-remember lyrics...

Not only in Nghe An , but nationwide, propaganda artworks are also flourishing, especially during major national events such as the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, and National Day on September 2nd.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the OPlus group compares each of their songs to “a historical parcel” sent from the past to the present. Or the song by DTAP performed by singer Ha Anh Tuan titled My House Has a Flag Hanging, which is continuously broadcast in large and small programs on television. Most recently, the song “ What Could Be More Beautiful ” - a song inspired by the movie Red Rain - by author Nguyen Hung created a “fever” as soon as the movie premiered and is still being played in coffee shops, shopping malls and on FM radio.

Song
The song "What's More Beautiful" by author Nguyen Hung, inspired by the movie "Red Rain", has created a listening and performing craze among young people.

The innovative form also contributes to increasing the appeal of this genre of music. The music video " Khát vọng tuổi trẻ" (Aspiration of Youth) Singer Tung Duong's song using artificial intelligence rendering techniques attracted millions of views on social media platforms. Singer Nguyen Phi Hung with the Vietnamese Youth March also made an impression thanks to the way he blended traditional and modern musical instruments, making cheerleading music trendy, catching up with the aesthetic taste of young audiences. Notably, at the A80 event, singer Tung Duong renewed the song Continue the story of peace with a new arrangement, with a vibrant Epic Rock arrangement, a musical style full of heroic and heroic epics.

The vitality of propaganda music is spreading strongly, turning every political and social event into a big stage where the public sings together, lives together with pride, and adds positive energy to the community.

To keep the cheerleading song alive after the event

However, not all motivational songs have a long-lasting life. Musician and singer Lo The Anh frankly said: “Many songs I wrote for times like the Covid-19 pandemic, or tourist festivals… were only popular at that time and then quickly fell into oblivion. But songs praising the homeland were also composed for an event like Yen Hoa, My Homeland , and Ve Hoi Lam Vong , which were sung over and over again, with thousands of views on YouTube."

Musician Quoc Chung believes that a motivational song that wants to transcend timeliness needs to have all the elements: attractive melody, concise lyrics, humane message and a form of expression suitable for music listening trends.

This explains why the MV Vinh quang, oi Viet Nam! by Nguyen Anh Tri is still “hot” after the A80 event, a work that was nurtured for 3 years, gathered more than 30 singers, thousands of extras, filmed at many iconic locations and especially, was composed according to the “short - concise - concise” structure, selecting each lyric, image, and idea to create a strong effect. Or like the song Con gi dep hon by Nguyen Hung after the movie “Mua do” was released, Continue writing the story of peace by musician Nguyen Van Chung… still awakens the audience every time it plays, even though the event has passed.

Currently, to create a lasting vitality for the cheering song, many musicians have proactively "renewed" it with contemporary musical materials. Many remixes incorporate electronic music, pop-rock, and hip-hop into familiar songs, making them closer to the music tastes of young people but still maintaining a generous spirit. This approach helps cheering songs no longer be tied to a certain festival occasion, but become a source of living inspiration, arousing patriotism in daily life.

On the other hand, to nurture the cheerleading songs for a long time, event organizers also need a systematic promotion strategy. Releasing songs with quality MVs, investing in image staging, putting them on digital platforms, organizing performances in schools, industrial parks, etc. will prolong the "life cycle" of cheerleading compositions. This is also a way to spread the spirit of patriotism and civic responsibility to a wide range of people, especially the youth.

More importantly, in order for a cheerleading song to not just “burn” once and then fade away, the composer needs to put his heart and soul beyond the propaganda task, so that each song becomes an artistic story, touching real emotions. At that time, cheerleading music will no longer be limited by time and space of events, but will truly live in the hearts of the public, like immortal melodies that last through the years.
