"Every coach hopes that their players will score many goals, the more the better. We still have to compete with our opponents in the group," Mr. Chung shared after the opening match of the Vietnamese women's team at Chonburi Daikin Stadium.

The 7 goals of the Vietnamese women's team in this match were scored by Thai Thi Thao (hat-trick), Pham Hai Yen (double), Tran Thi Hai Linh and Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy.
"Today is the opening match of the SEA Games. It's always difficult to open. But we have overcome the first match. Malaysia is an opponent that the Vietnamese women's team has not met for a long time. I see that they have made a lot of progress, they have won against Bangladesh, won against Tajikistan... I was also a bit worried at first, I reminded the players not to be subjective, to concentrate. Today, my team did it," said Mr. Chung.
The victory helped the Vietnamese women's team temporarily rise to the top of Group B of the 33rd SEA Games. Previously, the Myanmar women's team beat the Philippines 2-1, keeping the second place in Group B.

Group B of this year's SEA Games is considered extremely fierce with the presence of three strong teams. Vietnam's women are the defending champions, Myanmar's women are the runners-up of the recent Southeast Asian tournament, while the Philippines' women represented the region at the most recent World Cup. The strength of the three teams is quite similar, promising that the next two matches will be very difficult for the Vietnam women's team.
Coach Mai Duc Chung continued: "We achieved the requirements of no injuries, no yellow cards, and saving energy for the next matches. If you pay attention, you will see that I arranged the team with a mix of young and old players, not using all young players, nor all old players. I hope young athletes will progress and have created opportunities for them."
After this match, the Vietnamese women's team will have two days off. On December 8, the Vietnamese women's team will face the Philippines. If they win, Huynh Nhu and her teammates will have one foot in the semi-finals.
