Coach Shin Tae-yong: Some Indonesian players are seriously ill

" The players' condition is not very good. Some are seriously ill. I don't know what virus they have ," coach Shin Tae-yong shared after arriving in Hanoi .

The Indonesian team arrived in Vietnam on the afternoon of March 23 to prepare for the second leg match against Vietnam in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. According to Indonesian media, coach Shin Tae-yong did not bring enough players because some players were sick.

The five people who fell ill were Rafael Struick, Sandy Walsh, Ivar Jenner, Nadeo Argawinata and Muhammad Rhyandi. Some of the group, including Nadeo, did not go to Hanoi but had to stay for treatment.

Coach Shin Tae-yong is worried about the fever epidemic of the Indonesian team.

During the entire journey from Indonesia to Vietnam, the players of the archipelago team all wore masks to ensure safety and prevent the spread of fever within the team. On the evening of March 23, coach Shin Tae-yong and his team entered a closed training session.

The Korean strategist said that the Indonesian team did not train hard but only practiced recovery. At the same time, Mr. Shin wanted to evaluate the physical condition of the players to come up with a suitable training program.

" Today's training time is only for recovery. We will further evaluate the players' conditions. We will consider their problems little by little and proceed with training according to the plan ," Mr. Shin Tae-yong shared.

Mr. Arya Sinulingga - representative of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSi) said that there was no way that the players had contact with fans and got a fever. The players had problems with the weather and could easily get sick when they took a shower right after training.

" The change in weather has caused some players to have a fever. I hope the players recover quickly and can play in time for the match against the Vietnamese team ," he said.

The Indonesian team will have 3 training sessions in Vietnam to get used to the weather. 2 training sessions will be held behind closed doors. The remaining training session before the match day must be open according to the regulations of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). However, this training session will only be open for the first 15 minutes.

The Indonesian team is in a good position after winning the first leg. They are 1 point ahead of the Vietnamese team. Without losing at My Dinh, the chances of coach Shin Tae-yong and his team advancing are very high.

The second leg will take place at 7:00 p.m. on March 26 at My Dinh Stadium.
