U23 Macau coach: 'Indonesia plays high-speed football like Korea'

Coach Kwok Kar Kok Kenneth of U23 Macau compared the playing style of U23 Indonesia to have many similarities with U23 Korea.

On the evening of September 6, U23 Indonesia won a resounding 5-0 victory over U23 Macau in the second match of Group J of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers.

After suffering heavy defeats against the two strongest teams in the group, coach Kwok Kar Kok Kenneth gave professional analysis on the differences and similarities between U23 Indonesia and U23 Korea.

The biggest common point that this strategist emphasized was speed. He said that both teams deployed an extremely high-tempo style of play.

"Both teams played at a very high tempo, very fast at first," said coach Kenneth.

However, he also pointed out the difference in tactical operation. While U23 Korea used a three-defender formation, U23 Indonesia started with a four-man defense and made the most of the mobility of the two full-backs.

However, when looking at the opponent's final third, the Macau U23 coach saw similarities in their attacking style. He added: "They attack quite similarly in the final third because Korea has two tall strikers, Indonesia too with player number 9 Raven and number 16. Therefore, I believe the match between the two teams will take place at a fast pace."

When asked about the upcoming match between U23 Indonesia and U23 Korea, coach Kenneth predicted this will be an evenly matched match.

The situation in Group J is still undecided as Indonesia (4 points) is ranked 2nd, South Korea (6 points) is ranked 1st. Both will fight in the final round to find the team that wins the group.

With the advantage of playing at home, the team from the archipelago can completely surprise the Asian giant.
