Support women to start businesses

Identifying supporting members in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction as one of the key and continuous tasks, in recent years, the Women's Union of Thanh Quoi commune, Can Tho city has proactively built new, maintained, and improved linkage models, helping women start businesses and increase their income. In the period of 2021-2025, the Union has established 5 cooperative and linkage models; maintained capital support activities... helping 115 poor and near-poor households to escape poverty sustainably.

In Phung Phung hamlet, Thanh Quoi commune, the handbag sewing association group operates effectively, creating jobs for many members and women in the area. Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Tuyen, head of the handbag sewing association group, said: “Many years ago, I initiated the establishment of a plastic chair knitting group, creating jobs for more than 30 members and women. Later, when the number of orders decreased, affecting the income of women, I started to learn sewing and mobilized women to receive orders for handbag sewing. From the beginning of 2025 until now, with the support of the Commune Women's Union, I boldly invested in buying sewing machines and raw materials to open a processing facility at home."

According to Ms. Tuyen, the facility mainly accepts processing of handbag bodies. After receiving goods from the company, Ms. Tuyen divides the sewing members into different stages. The processing fee depends on the quantity and difficulty of the product. Every 4-5 days, Ms. Tuyen receives and delivers about 1,000 products. Ms. Le Thi Ut, in Phung Phung hamlet, shared: “Before, I was just a housewife. Realizing that sewing processing is simple and suitable for my conditions, I applied to learn the profession and receive processing goods. Currently, I am in charge of running the straps and checking the products.”

Currently, the Handbag Sewing Association is creating jobs for more than 20 female workers; the average income is 200,000 VND/person/day. According to Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Tuyen, this result has great support from the Women's Union of Thanh Quoi commune. The Union has helped her borrow 80 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to invest in machinery, expand production scale; regularly promote and find sources of products for processing...

In recent times, the Women's Union of Thanh Quoi commune has implemented many practical support activities, encouraging members and women to participate in collective economic models; helping women shift the structure of crops and livestock towards increasing product value, bringing high economic efficiency. In the period of 2021-2025, the Women's Union of the commune has established 5 new models, including: "Growing clean vegetables", "Weaving plastic ropes", "Sewing processing" and 2 "Women's cooking groups" with 62 members; creating jobs for over 350 female workers.

According to Ms. Truong Thi Hao, President of the Women's Union of Thanh Quoi Commune, the work of caring for members and women has been promoted through programs to support economic development, vocational training, job introduction, and create favorable conditions for women to start businesses... Every year, the Women's Union of the Commune reviews and grasps the living conditions of members and women to provide timely assistance. Currently, the Union maintains the operation of 29 savings and loan groups from the Social Policy Bank with a total outstanding debt of over 66 billion VND, helping over 1,270 members and women borrow capital for livestock and crop farming, converting production models, and developing the economy. In addition, the Union maintains capital support activities to help women develop their family economy from savings sources, capital contribution groups, and the emulation movement to save following Uncle Ho's example with a savings amount of over 2.5 billion VND.

With the motto "Where there are women, there are Union activities", the Commune Women's Union focuses on social security work. In the period of 2021-2025, the Union mobilized to repair 11 Charity Houses worth more than 400 million VND; build 7 new houses for poor women members in difficult circumstances worth 542 million VND. Every year, on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival and the beginning of the new school year, the Union mobilized to give hundreds of gifts to children of women members... Through practical activities, the Union has helped 115 poor and near-poor households to escape poverty sustainably.

Along with activities to care for people's lives, the Commune Women's Union is interested in organizing extensive and practical emulation movements, mobilizing women of all walks of life to actively participate. Notable are the movements "Women actively study, work creatively, build happy families", the campaign to build families with 5 no's and 3 clean's... In the period of 2021-2025, the Union supports 170 households to meet the criteria of "5 no's and 3 clean"; build 3 ornamental flower planting routes and 12 "Bright, green, clean, beautiful" routes, maintain 11 models of "Women's Union with 5 no's and 3 clean's". In addition, the Association maintains and improves the quality of 14 "Trusted Address" models in the community and models and clubs, such as: "Domestic Violence Prevention" model, "Safety for Women and Children" club, "Building Happy Families" club, "Marriage and Family Counseling" club; "Women with the Law" club...

Through specific and practical actions, the Women's Union of Thanh Quoi commune has promoted its role as a bridge, actively contributing to improving the quality of life of its members; creating a connection between members and women with the Union organization.
