“Talking with Painting” is the second book in a series of four works on art by artist Le Thiet Cuong, a collection of more than 70 articles that have been published in various cultural publications, spanning from 2005 to the present. The work is divided into three major chapters, covering generations of artists from the Indochina period, the To Ngoc Van resistance war, to the renovation and post-renovation.
In addition to analyzing the styles and individual contributions of each artist, the author also places the works in a specific historical and social context, thereby explaining the aesthetic movements in the flow of Vietnamese fine arts. The final chapter of the book is particularly noteworthy when it expands the scope of the subject to propaganda paintings, war sketches, portraits, and even erotic art - topics that have not been explored in depth in current fine arts books.

Sharing about the work, artist Le Thiet Cuong said that he did not name his book “criticism” in the true sense, because true criticism requires sharp writings, not afraid to criticize or debate frankly. The author also expressed the hope that this book can become a useful reference for those who are new to learning about painting, as well as those who love and care about Vietnamese art.
“When writing about an author, I always point out what, through that work, the author has contributed to the art of painting that other authors do not have, especially contributions to form, that is, the materials that make up the painting, shape, color, composition, light and dark, material, and brushwork,” said painter Le Thiet Cuong.
The event is not only an introduction to new works, but also a rare opportunity for professionals and art lovers to have a direct and open dialogue about a field that still lacks many independent and specialized voices.
