Hai Phong "Heroic City"

On May 13, 1955, Hai Phong was completely liberated. This was an event of extremely important historical significance, marking a brilliant milestone in the revolutionary career of the Party Committee, government and people of the city. The past seventy years have witnessed and marked many great changes in the land, people, economy and society of the Port City.

During the years 1955 - 1965, Hai Phong was the place where patriotic emulation movements were implemented, the origin of the "Sea Waves" emulation movement in industrial production, and also the beginning of the emulation movement to build socialist labor teams and groups in the North. To support the Southern battlefield, Wharf K15 was built. This was the secret departure place of the unnumbered ships, the beginning of the heroic epic at sea: the legendary Ho Chi Minh trail, which became a proud symbol of the nation, the embodiment of the will and aspiration for independence, freedom and national unification. Many officers and sailors of the "unnumbered" ships were the outstanding sons of Hai Phong. During these years, beloved President Ho Chi Minh visited Hai Phong 9 times. His teachings will forever be a precious legacy, guiding the development of Hai Phong yesterday, today and forever.

During the years 1965 - 1975, Hai Phong was the focus of attacks by American aircraft and warships. The Party Committee, army and people of Hai Phong promoted the tradition of "Loyalty - Determination to Win" to fight and win, shooting down 317 American aircraft, breaking the siege and blockade of the port with enemy mines, ensuring smooth traffic in all situations. In 1969, the great President Ho Chi Minh passed away, Hai Phong had the honor of successfully producing P.600 cement to build his mausoleum. During the war years, tens of thousands of Hai Phong's outstanding sons "Cut through Truong Son to save the country", countless people remained with the Truong Son mountain range, and transformed into Vietnamese land. The Fatherland will forever be grateful for that noble sacrifice. In 1975, the resistance war against America to save the country was completely victorious, the country was reunited. In recognition of the great contributions of the Party Committee, army and people of the city, the Party and State awarded the Party Committee, army and people of Hai Phong the Gold Star Order in 1976.

On the evening of May 11, Hai Phong held a general rehearsal for the 2025 Red Flamboyant Festival art program.

During the years 1976 - 1985, Hai Phong, together with the whole country, carried out two strategic tasks: building and defending the Fatherland. Hai Phong was the origin of the product contracting mechanism in agricultural production, and was entrusted by the Central Government to pilot policies on innovation in industrial production management, expand international cooperation and exchanges, pilot the implementation of price mechanisms close to market prices, and summarize the implementation of the motto "People know, people discuss, people do, people inspect". Those creative steps and approaches of Hai Phong contributed to the formation of the Party's comprehensive innovation policy.

From 1986 to present, Hai Phong has undergone a strong transformation, with many breakthrough policies, leaving many outstanding marks in all fields. Especially in more than 5 years of implementing Resolution 45 of the Politburo, Hai Phong has achieved many outstanding results, always being in the top of the country in many aspects.

In 2024, Hai Phong's economic scale will rise to the 5th position in the country; the highest economic growth rate among the 5 localities with the largest economic scale. Hai Phong is the only locality in the country to maintain a double-digit growth rate for 10 consecutive years; budget revenue ranks 3rd in the country; FDI attraction ranks 2nd in the country. Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) ranks 3rd in the country, State Administrative Reform Index ranks 1st... The appearance of a green, smart, modern city, on par with typical cities in Asia, is gradually taking shape.

The opening art program of the Red Flamboyant Festival will use 3D Mapping technology on real scenes, creating magical transformations for the natural landscapes of Hai Phong.

Therefore, events leading up to the anniversary are organized solemnly, on a large scale, with highlights. Through that, people across the country and international friends will see the image of a dynamic, friendly Hai Phong with a strong desire to rise up. Up to now, the festival organization has been carried out very urgently, ensuring quality, worthy of the event in the brilliant days of May.

Representative of the Organizing Committee of the Red Flamboyant Festival, Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai shared that through each Red Flamboyant Festival season, Hai Phong has built a scenario to renew the city's "specialty". The highlight of this year's Festival is the art program "Hai Phong - 70 years of faith and aspiration to rise up" held at the Square in front of the Political - Administrative Center in the new urban area of ​​Bac Song Cam (Thuy Nguyen City) with a scale of 13,000 delegates, the largest ever.

Within the framework of the 70th Anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day, on May 11, Hai Phong organized a grand parade with the participation of more than 3,000 people, divided into many groups: Military and Police Group, Departments, agencies, organizations, localities, typical units and other forces. In particular, the event had the participation of beauty queens and beauties from Hai Phong who won titles at major beauty contests in Vietnam and the world; students who won high prizes in international competitions and art troupes, foreign enterprises...

In the coming time, the city plans to start 4 key projects and inaugurate 7 other key projects to celebrate the Anniversary. Along with that, from April 30 to June 1, 2025, the whole city will continuously hold exciting cultural, artistic, physical education, sports, and tourism promotion events.

In addition to the opening art program of the Festival, there are also special international art programs taking place at the central square of the city such as: Art performance exchange by the Nanning City Art Troupe, Guangxi, China (evening of May 11); performance by the Ningbo City Art Troupe, Zhejiang, China (evening of May 12); International Music and Dance Festival for Children (evening of May 14); performance by the Korean Folk Art Troupe (evening of May 17)...

Regarding tourism, Hai Phong has launched the luxury train "Hoa Phuong Do", operated 20 new carriages on the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line and recognized the over 120-year-old Hai Phong Station as a tourist destination.
