The 16th ASEAN Ministers on Information Meeting will take place in Da Nang

According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam, Vietnam chose the theme "Media: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Adaptive ASEAN" throughout the entire agenda.

The theme highlights the role and mission of the media sector in the new period, making information the driving force of development, not only providing information, but also promoting the transformation from Information to Knowledge, to build a Resilient ASEAN, strengthen internal capacity, resilience and Adaptability to affirm the role and position of ASEAN not only inward-looking, but also ready to respond to fluctuations in the current world situation.

The event week from September 20 to 23 will include the following main activities: the 16th AMRI Ministerial Conference; the 7th AMRI+3 Conference; the 20th SOMRI Conference and SOMRI+3, SOMRI+ Japan; Official press conference of the 16th AMRI Conference: announcing the main results of the 16th AMRI Conference and related conferences.

In addition, there are forums and workshops: ASEAN regional forum on Responding to and handling fake news in cyberspace; ASEAN workshop on Digital transformation of journalism - Creating digital knowledge and sideline activities of bilateral meetings between countries; ASEAN Photo exhibition; ASEAN online film/photo experience area (ASEAN Identity Platform, National Information Portal vietnam.vn); Da Nang's booth and booths of 7 digital technology enterprises and cultural exchange and sightseeing programs.

AMRI 16 and related conferences will focus on discussing the following contents: building a Vision for ASEAN cooperation in the field of information and media; ASEAN cooperation mechanisms to respond to and handle fake news and false information online; promoting digital transformation activities in the Press and Media sector; identifying opportunities and challenges in applying modern technologies to the Press and Media sector; promoting and improving information provision activities across ASEAN.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Lam, at this agenda, the issue of fake news, untrue news and how to handle and respond will also be discussed by Ministers and relevant agencies.

“We are facing a global problem, mainstream media channels are facing competition from new traditional methods, users have changed the way they access information.

The conference will be an opportunity for countries to unite in a region to share good practices and experiences in leading information, handling fake news and untrue news, protecting information users and taking advantage of the multi-dimensional information era," the Deputy Minister emphasized.

The conference is held every two years, this year Vietnam is the host and Da Nang City is honored to be chosen as the venue for the 16th Conference. Vietnam's hosting of this Conference demonstrates Vietnam's proactive and responsible role in multilateral diplomacy and affirms the significance of ASEAN Cooperation. Strengthening cooperation with ASEAN member countries and ASEAN Dialogue Partners. At the same time, promoting Vietnam's priority contents in regional cooperation.
