Phong Chau Bridge closed after nearly 300 days of construction

TPO - On the morning of August 27, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of National Defense, and the People's Committee of Phu Tho province solemnly held the closing ceremony of the new Phong Chau bridge - a particularly important traffic project, marking the effort to restore the vital route of National Highway 32C after the collapse of the old bridge at the end of 2024.

The new Phong Chau Bridge has a total length of 653 m, of which the main bridge is 383 m long, 20.5 m wide with a scale of 4 lanes for motor vehicles. The project is designed with reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete, according to permanent standards. The total investment is more than 635 billion VND from the central budget reserve.

Construction of Phong Chau Bridge began in December 2024 and was completed nearly two months ahead of schedule. The bridge is expected to open to traffic in early October.

To achieve the "lightning-fast" progress of Phong Chau bridge construction, hundreds of cadres, engineers, workers and soldiers worked tirelessly in "3 shifts - 4 shifts", including holidays and Tet. In particular, the "30 days and nights of lightning speed - determined victory" campaign launched from August 10 to September 10 played a key role in shortening the progress.

People here are looking forward to the day when a new bridge will connect the two banks of the Red River. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, Phung Nguyen commune, Phu Tho province shared: “We are almost happy! After the bridge collapse, the army operated the Phong Chau pontoon bridge to serve the people. On stormy days, the pontoon bridge was cut off and it took an hour to get to the center of the province. Now that the bridge is closed, we feel more secure and hope to soon open to traffic for convenient travel.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Tran Ngoc Tuan - Director of Truong Son 9 Executive Board, Corps 12 - emphasized that today's closing event marks a key stage of the project, a historical milestone and a record in the progress of the bridge construction industry nationwide. This is the result of the tireless efforts of the direct construction forces, aiming to put the project into use in early October.

Colonel Tran Ngoc Tuan affirmed that the completion of Phong Chau bridge is not only a success in terms of progress and quality but also demonstrates the high determination of the construction unit. This is a vivid proof of the determination, creativity and aspiration of the team of workers and engineers who work day and night to build the project.

The closing and completion of the final items to put Phong Chau Bridge into operation not only connects the two banks of the Red River, restoring an important traffic axis of Phu Tho province, but also opens up opportunities for socio -economic development, ensuring safety for people traveling every day.
