On the afternoon of September 11th, information from the Office of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province indicated that the leaders of the provincial People's Committee and the People's Committee of Da Nang city had worked together on coordinating the management and promotion of the value of the Hai Van Pass national historical site.

The leaders of the two localities agreed on the following aspects: management methods and content, rotational management schedule, ticket sales schedule for visiting historical sites, ticket pricing framework, personnel, and other matters related to technical infrastructure and tourism services.
Accordingly, the Hue Imperial City Relics Conservation Center will take turns managing the Hai Van Pass relic site directly for a period of 3 years.
Da Nang will assign management to Lien Chieu district on a rotating basis every three years, with the People's Committee of Phu Loc district taking the lead in coordinating with the People's Committee of Lien Chieu district on landscape planning.
According to historical records, Hai Van Pass was built during the Tran Dynasty and restored during the Nguyen Dynasty (in the 7th year of Minh Menh's reign, 1826). Over time, this historical site, located on the summit of Hai Van Pass between Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang provinces, has deteriorated and needs investment for restoration, preservation, and promotion of its value.
In December 2021, the project to preserve, restore, and promote the value of Hai Van Pass was launched, with a budget of 42 billion VND, implemented by the Hue Imperial City Relics Conservation Center in coordination with the Da Nang City Department of Culture and Sports.
This is a site of great cultural and historical value, and also a famous scenic spot of the two localities. To date, the restoration of the monument has basically ensured the restoration and repair of some original structures of the monument such as the Thien Ha De Nhat Hung Quan gate, the Hai Van Quan gate, the headquarters, and the system of city walls.
From August 1st this year, the Hai Van Pass historical site has been open to visitors free of charge until the two localities agree on a suitable ticket price list. During this time, the parties are also gathering feedback from the community to finalize the plan and improve service facilities to ensure the safety of tourists.
In the initial phase of serving tourists, the relevant authorities installed railings, protective glass, and directional signs to ensure visitor safety. Notably, the interior of the headquarters building has been completed and displays informational materials about the historical site in both Vietnamese and English to facilitate visitors' learning about the structure's history.
Currently, the two localities have collaborated to establish a monument protection team, issued working regulations, and prepared all necessary infrastructure for management and protection activities. In the future, the two localities will establish a management board to carry out the management and exploitation of the monument. At the same time, they will research and organize exhibitions, displays, and activities related to Hai Van Pass to spread awareness of this special scenic spot.
The cultural sectors of the two localities will continue to cooperate in exploiting, preserving, and promoting the value of this historical site, as well as coordinating management, ensuring security and order, environmental landscape, and exhibition space for tourism products… in order to contribute to promoting the site and attracting tourists to visit.
