On the morning of March 30th, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations ( Hanoi ), the Vietnam Literature and Arts Creative Support Fund, in collaboration with the Literature and Arts Times, held a press conference to launch a painting competition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2024) titled “Hail to the Dien Bien Phu Soldiers”.

Prof. Dr. Do Hong Quan, Musician, Secretary of the Party Committee, President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations ; Dr. Doan Thanh No, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, President of the Vietnam Literature and Arts Creative Support Fund; Major General, musician Duc Trinh, President of the Vietnam Musicians Association; Fine arts critic Mai Thi Ngoc Oanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association; Journalist, photographer Ho Si Minh, Vice President of the Vietnam Photographers Association; Writer, journalist Hoang Du, Editor-in-Chief of the Literature and Arts Times; along with members of the competition's judging panel and numerous reporters from various media outlets.

In his opening remarks at the press conference, Dr. Doan Thanh No, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, and President of the Vietnam Literature and Arts Creative Support Fund, stated that, in accordance with Guidance No. 69-HD/BTGTW dated September 20, 2022, of the Central Propaganda Department on organizing activities to commemorate major holidays and important historical events in the three years 2023-2025, the Standing Committee of the Presidium of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations assigned the Vietnam Literature and Arts Creative Support Fund to cooperate with the Literature and Arts Times to co-organize the painting competition with the theme "Hail to the Dien Bien Phu Soldiers" .

According to Dr. Doan Thanh No, this competition is not only an opportunity for authors, especially students, to showcase their talent and creativity, but also a chance for young authors to gain a deeper understanding of the history and traditions of the nation's struggle to build and defend the country.

The competition is part of a series of practical and meaningful activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, aiming to promote and educate about patriotic traditions, national pride, and gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the cause of national liberation, independence, freedom, and happiness of the people. From there, it aims to foster the creativity and rich imagination of young artists about a powerful Vietnam and the beautiful homeland of Dien Bien Phu , emphasized the Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations.

Sharing his thoughts on the significance of the competition, writer and journalist Hoang Du, Editor-in-Chief of the Literature and Arts Times, said that the painting competition "Hail to the Dien Bien Phu Soldiers" is a very "open" theme, allowing children to freely use their imagination to create, while still focusing on a beneficial and interesting theme that helps to awaken love for the homeland and cultivate historical values.

Through this competition, students have the opportunity to learn about the history of Dien Bien Phu through books, newspapers, poetry, etc., and to freely express their artistic talents, creativity, and thoughts. This serves as a strong source of inspiration for their peers and spreads to the community a vision of a bright future for the heroic land of Dien Bien Phu. It is also an opportunity for students with artistic talent to develop and nurture their abilities, creating motivation for learning and creativity.

Writer and journalist Hoang Du, Editor-in-Chief of the Literature and Arts Times, shared his thoughts on the significance of the competition.

Associate Professor, Doctor of Music Do Hong Quan, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, also affirmed that this competition is significant for the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, as the whole country is looking forward to that important milestone. The launch of the competition is an activity that deserves recognition and high praise.

The competition chose painting as the art form to help children express their understanding, thoughts, and feelings about the glorious Dien Bien Phu Victory, which "shook the world." The competition contributes to educating students' aesthetic awareness and fostering their love for the country and its history.

Through this competition, the children will discover the multifaceted beauty of life through their innocent and pure perspective. They can understand that "Hail to the Dien Bien Phu Soldiers" is not only a tribute to the soldiers who fought on the front lines in the past, but also to the soldiers of today, those who are contributing to building their homeland and country every day," said the Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations.

Associate Professor, Doctor of Music Do Hong Quan, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, highly appreciated this competition.

The competition's judging panel consists of renowned contemporary artists with high expertise and extensive experience, such as: Artist Dinh Quang Tinh - artistic name Ba Tinh (Chairman of the Judging Panel), Artist Thanh Chuong (Head of the Professional Judging Panel), Artist Ngo Xuan Khoi, etc.

According to artist Dinh Quang Tinh, the special feature of the competition is the professional and systematic application of information technology in encrypting data about authors and works, helping contestants quickly access accurate information about the competition and the Organizing Committee, the Judging Panel, and the Jury. At the same time, information technology contributes to transparency and fairness in the judging process, helping the Jury classify and detect works that violate the competition rules.

The works shortlisted for the final round are expected to be exhibited at the Hanoi Opera House, the Hanoi Children's Cultural Palace, and other venues.

In particular, the winning contestants will have the opportunity to visit and view their paintings at Viet Phu Thanh Chuong – a massive art installation, an architectural "museum" deeply imbued with the spirit of Vietnam. Here, they will have the chance to explore the beauty of traditional culture and contemplate the historical values ​​of the nation; they will visit the Thanh Chuong Art Museum titled "Living in Art" (Art for Life), take commemorative photos with the artists and the judging panel, helping them to gain more confidence and passion for painting.

The Organizing Committee will continue to accept entries until April 20, 2024 (based on the postmark). The closing ceremony and awards presentation are tentatively scheduled to be held on April 28, 2024 at the Hanoi Opera House.

The prize structure includes:
One special prize will be awarded to the contestant with the most impressive artwork, clearly demonstrating a passion for painting;
3 First Prizes (preschool, primary, and secondary) each worth 30 million VND;
3 Second Prizes (preschool, primary, and secondary) each worth 20 million VND;
3 Third Prizes (preschool, primary, and secondary) each worth 10 million VND;
70 Consolation Prizes, each worth 500,000 VND;
One prize of 2 million VND will be awarded to the unit with the highest number of entries in the competition;
The royalties for the 12 artworks used in the 2025 calendar are 500,000 VND per artwork.
The 70 winning paintings will be given as gifts to localities, organizations, businesses, and Dien Bien province.
