World violin legend Shlomo Mintz visited and worked in Hanoi from September 5 to 9 at the invitation of Meritorious Artist Bui Cong Duy, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, and international violinist Chuong Vu, Artistic Director of Vietnam Connection Music Festival.

World violin legend Shlomo Mintz excited to come to Vietnam

The talented artist Shlomo Mintz was born in Russia and grew up in the US. He said he had heard a lot about Vietnamese culture and wanted to learn more. "For a long time, I wanted to visit and tour Vietnam to see everything with my own eyes," the famous artist shared.

"I was supposed to be in Hanoi on your National Day, September 2. However, there was a problem with my visa so I only arrived today. I have been waiting for this day for a long time so I am very excited. Artist Bui Cong Duy came to the airport to pick me up, this warm affection is so precious'' - world violin legend Shlomo Mintz added.

During his stay in Hanoi, world violin legend Shlomo Mintz will teach a Masterclass to students of the Vietnam National Academy of Music on September 5. Then, on the evening of September 8, a rare special concert "Shlomo Mintz and friends" will take place at the Grand Concert Hall of the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

In addition to world violin legend Shlomo Mintz, the program also features performances by Meritorious Artist Bui Cong Duy and international violinist Chuong Vu.

Meritorious Artist Bui Cong Duy welcomes world violin legend Shlomo Mintz at Noi Bai airport

This concert program features the combined participation of the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra and the Sun Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the talented conductor Olivier Ochanine.

The program includes Antonio Vivaldi's iconic Concertos for 2 and 3 violins, along with a performance of one of the most difficult and beautiful Concertos of all time, Ludwig Van Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major, opus. 61.

World Violin Legend Shlomo Mintz will have 5 working days in Vietnam

Part 1 of the concert will be performed and conducted by the legendary Shlomo Mintz himself. Shlomo Mintz will perform on the precious violin called "Vesuvius" by Antonio Stradivarius.

Shlomo Mintz is regarded by his peers, audiences and critics as one of the world's leading violinists, known for his impeccable playing, versatility of style and superb technique. He has collaborated with such renowned artists as Isaac Stern, Mstislav Rostropovich, Zukerman, Itzhak Perlman, Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Carlo Maria Giulini, Riccardo Muti, Yuri Temirkanov, Ida Haendel, Ivry Gitlis.

He said he had long wanted to visit and tour Vietnam to see everything with his own eyes.

Besides, world violin legend Shlomo Mintz has played with the world's best symphony orchestras such as Berlin, Vienna, Concertgebouw, Chicago, Los Angeles, NHK Symphony (Japan), Philadelphia and New York Philharmonic.

He has been awarded many prestigious international awards such as Premio Internazionale Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Diapason D'Or, Grand Prix du Disque, Gramophone Award, Edison Award and Cremona Music Award.

In 2006 he received an Honorary Degree from Ben-Gurion University, Beersheba (Israel) and in 2022 was honored as an Honorary Lecturer of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (Israel).

Shlomo Mintz has been a judge at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, the Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition in Brussels and the Henryk Wieniawski International Competition in Poznań, Poland. He has also been invited to serve as President of the Jury of the Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition in Japan for many years.

From 2002 to 2011 he was President of the Jury of the Sion Valais International Violin Competition in Switzerland and from 2012 to 2018 he was Artistic Director of Crans-Montana Classics, the High School and Festival for Violin in Switzerland.

In recent years, in addition to his talents in violin, viola performance and orchestra conducting, Shlomo Mintz is also known in the field of composition.

To celebrate Shlomo Mintz's 60th birthday, Deutsche Grammophon has reissued his recordings in a 13-CD edition including legendary recordings of violin concertos by composers Mendelssohn, Prokofiev, Sibelius, Lalo and Vieuxtemps performed with renowned orchestras and conductors.
