Iran on February 3 condemned the US airstrikes on Iraq and Syria on February 2 as a "strategic mistake" by the US, according to AFP. "The overnight attack on Syria and Iraq is a reckless act and another strategic mistake by the US government that will only lead to increased tension and instability in the region," Iranian Foreign Minister spokesman Nasser Kanani stressed in a statement.
Mr Kanani also said that the US attacks were "a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq and Syria, a violation of international law and a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter".

The new US attack was in response to a drone attack in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border on January 28 that killed three US servicemen and injured more than 40. The US has accused Iran-backed militias of carrying out the attack in Jordan, while Tehran has denied involvement.

In addition, Hamas forces on February 3 also condemned the new US attack in Iraq and Syria, saying that Washington "must be responsible for the consequences of this brutal act of aggression, which adds fuel to the fire" in the Middle East, according to AFP.
Meanwhile, after the February 2 US attack, Mr. Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the European Union (EU), called on all parties to avoid escalation in the Middle East.
“Everyone should try to avoid an explosion,” Borrell said at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. He did not directly mention the new US strikes but repeated his warning that the Middle East “is a cauldron that could explode.”
Mr Borrell pointed to the Hamas-Israel conflict in Gaza, along violence the Lebanese border, bombings in Iraq and Syria, and attacks on ships in the Red Sea. "That is why we call on everyone to try to avoid an escalation," Mr Borrell stressed.
