Patients experience many benefits thanks to digital transformation

Applying digital transformation in the healthcare sector is a solution to help improve the efficiency of medical examination and treatment, reduce the workload for hospitals, and move towards building a smart healthcare system. In recent times, the Hanoi healthcare sector has always strived to promote digital transformation, apply information technology, apply high technology in treatment, innovate the style and service attitude of medical staff, and aim at patient satisfaction.

Xanh - Pon General Hospital is one of the first hospitals in the city to deploy modern information technology, aiming to bring patients convenient, fast and quality medical examination and treatment experiences.

Right from the reception stage, there is no need to queue up to get a number, then present documents and declare information... for medical staff to enter into the machine like before. Now, patients coming to the Xanh-Pon General Hospital can quickly register for medical examination through self-service kiosks. If using a chip-embedded citizen identification card or the VNEID application, the patient swipes the card into the machine or scans the QR code, the system will automatically recognize and read the data, fill in all the information to complete the profile. The smart kiosk can also recognize the patient by face. Then, the kiosk screen will display medical examination services such as: in-line health insurance examination, out-of-line health insurance examination or service examination for people to choose and get a queue number. In less than 1 minute, the medical examination registration is completed, the patient just needs to go straight to the examination room, sit and wait for their turn. Using a self-service kiosk for the first time, Ms. Kim Chi in Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi was very surprised and amazed.

“I always thought that going to the hospital meant having to jostle and wait, but it is really convenient to be examined at Xanh Pon Hospital. Because there are kiosks that help me get a medical examination form very quickly, I no longer have to waste time queuing. When I go to the examination room, my information is already available. After completing the ultrasound, X-ray, and testing techniques, I do not need to wait for the results. Because all the results have been sent to the original examination room.” – Ms. Kim Chi said.

For elderly patients who are not proficient in using smart kiosks, Xanh Pon Hospital has assigned medical staff to be on duty to assist. Ms. Le Thi Gai - 75 years old - in Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi said that every time she waited to see a doctor, she often had to have documents such as health insurance card, citizen ID card, medical records in hand. However, now, she only needs to bring her citizen ID card with chip, go to the hospital, swipe it through the machine to get a medical examination number and then go straight to the examination room.

Not only in the reception stage, digital transformation and information technology application have been deployed in the entire medical examination and treatment process and many areas of Xanh Pon Hospital, making patients feel satisfied.

Having diabetes and high blood pressure, being monitored and treated at Xanh-Pon General Hospital, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hau also said that each patient when coming to the hospital for examination will be given a separate code and password to be able to access the application called "Xanh-Pon General Hospital" on mobile phones. This application is very convenient for patients with chronic diseases like her to track their medical examination and treatment history, medications that have been and are being used, follow-up appointments, etc.

Reducing paperwork, reducing administrative procedures, reducing hassles and waiting time, receiving more attentive care and attention - these are the things that patients feel most clearly when they see the changes of Xanh Pon Hospital when implementing digital transformation and applying information technology in medical examination and treatment. This is also one of the factors that helps patients have more confidence in the leading hospital in the capital.

Digital transformation actively supports medical examination and treatment activities

Xanh - Pon General Hospital is a class I hospital in Hanoi with 7 leading specialties, with a scale of 870 beds. Every day, the hospital receives about 2,000 to 3,000 outpatients and manages about 1,000 inpatients. In addition, the hospital is currently managing more than 6,000 patients with hypertension, about 3,000 patients with diabetes, 1,000 patients with hepatitis B, 1,500 patients with asthma and many patients with other chronic diseases. With the implementation of electronic medical records, patient information is stored in a detailed and systematic manner. This helps doctors manage patients better, give accurate diagnostic results to have appropriate treatment directions for patients.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang - Head of the Department of Examination and Treatment, Xanh-Pon General Hospital, said: “Paper medical records take up a lot of storage space and are easily lost. However, with electronic medical records, there is no need to worry about losing files or documents. Accessing the management software on the computer will provide full patient information. In the past, without information technology, examining just over 1,000 patients would have been confusing in the processes. Currently, thanks to information technology, we apply a one-way process for patients. For example, when we prescribe medicine, the pharmacy has the information, divides it, and prepares the medicine. The patient only needs to come down and give the examination paper to get the medicine immediately.”

Not only stopping at the registration and medical examination and treatment processes, information technology has been and is being used to support doctors in treating serious cases. Engineer Vu Viet Hung - Deputy Head of Social Work Department, Xanh - Pon General Hospital said that the hospital is currently deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to support doctors in image diagnosis, helping doctors diagnose more accurately the injuries and diseases of patients.

Dr. Luong Duc Dung - Head of Planning and Synthesis Department, Xanh - Pon General Hospital affirmed that digital transformation and application of information technology have had positive impacts on medical examination and treatment at the hospital. The outstanding results that the hospital has achieved are: deploying a smart self-service kiosk system to receive patients; deploying electronic medical records to replace paper records; connecting medical examination and treatment data at the hospital to the City's Electronic Health Book; cashless payment; digitizing and implementing digital signatures in handling administrative procedures, applying AI in medical examination and treatment, deploying the Xanh - Pon General Hospital app; Nursing app.

Digital transformation has helped doctors like us easily access new scientific knowledge and new techniques, minimize the risk of errors affecting patient safety, easily connect with higher levels for consultation and advice; reduce administrative procedures and paperwork in the hospital. Digital technology platforms also help increase the efficiency of management and operation of the Board of Directors, help make accurate and timely decisions as well as effectively implement activities to monitor compliance with procedures and treatment regimens of medical staff. In the coming time, the hospital will continue to promote the application of information technology and digital transformation, towards building a smart hospital to serve patients better and better.” - Dr. Luong Duc Dung said.
