According to Mr. Phan Vu Dong Quan, Deputy Director of Quang Ngai Power Company, the incident occurred when Typhoon No. 13 made landfall, causing large waves and strong tidal surges that severely eroded the coastline of Thanh Thuy village (Van Tuong commune). As a result, the protective sand layer and warning poles were swept away and collapsed, and more than 20 meters of 22 kV underground cable were exposed.

The incident did not affect technical aspects, so power supply to the Ly Son Special Economic Zone continued as normal without interruption, but it threatened the electrical safety of the area. The Binh Son Power Management Team mobilized personnel to erect a fence using iron stakes and B40 mesh to cordon off the danger zone, secured the exposed cable section with sandbags, and installed warning signs. At the same time, they coordinated with the Van Tuong Commune People's Committee to disseminate information and advise residents and fishermen to avoid the area to ensure safety.
Quang Ngai Power Company has hired a specialized consulting firm to survey and assess the current situation and develop a comprehensive remediation plan. This plan has been submitted to the Central Vietnam Power Corporation for consideration of funding and implementation. The long-term solution involves reinforcing the last remaining underwater cable pylon, located 60 meters from the seashore and at risk of erosion, as well as reinforcing both sides of the underwater cable section in the beach area to ensure safe power supply to the Ly Son Special Economic Zone amidst increasingly complex climate change conditions.
