A new milestone in hotel technology has just been set in China, when the Shangri-La Traders Hotel in Shanghai officially put into operation the humanoid robot XMAN-R1.
XMAN-R1 was developed by Keenon Robotics, a world- leading service robot company headquartered in the same city.
The newly opened Shangri-La Traders Hotel is a subsidiary of the Shangri-La Group, aiming to become the benchmark for a new generation of business hotels, combining efficiency and enjoyment.
However, hotel management has been faced with challenges such as high service demands from customers and the urgent need to maintain consistent service quality.
To solve the above problem, the hotel turned to Keenon's technological innovation to optimize human resource allocation, enhance service standardization and create unique accommodation experiences for guests.
The solution is Keenon's integrated robot fleet, which is deployed across hotel operations – from front desk greeting, food and item delivery, to luggage handling and room cleaning.
At the heart of this transformation is the XMAN-R1. This robot will take on the role of a receptionist, with the ability to proactively greet guests, intelligently ask questions, and even give welcome gifts to guests.
Supporting the XMAN-R1 are other Keenon specialized robots, such as the W3 delivery robot responsible for room deliveries, and the S100 heavy-duty transport robot that manages luggage transportation. Hotel cleaning is handled by the C40 robot, while food delivery in the hotel restaurant is handled by the T10 and T3 robots.

Behind this impressive performance is Keenon's self-developed core technology, called KOM 2.0, which is considered the world's first “Vision - Language - Action” (VLA) model for the service industry.
KOM 2.0 serves as the general intelligence platform and core intelligence system of the robot, integrating vision, speech and movement capabilities into a unified framework. This allows XMAN-R1 to interpret human intentions and respond contextually in real time.
In addition, the company has also developed KEENON ProS, a specialized model optimized for vertical industries such as hospitality. This model acts as a comprehensive “vocational training” program, equipping robots with professional job skills for assigned roles.
The successful deployment of a portfolio of multi-purpose and specialized robots at Shangri-La Traders Hotel demonstrates Keenon's focus on accumulating trading scenario data and developing technology over many years.
Additionally, it demonstrates that artificial intelligence is now contributing to improving the quality of hotel operations and guest stay experiences in a more efficient and convenient way.
However, as it is newly deployed, its effectiveness at Shangri-La Traders Hotel will require more time to evaluate.
