This is a meaningful sports and cultural activity, organized in the vibrant competitive atmosphere of the entire province, aimed at celebrating major national and Dien Bien province holidays.
Attending the opening ceremony were: Ms. Hoang Tuyet Ban – Provincial Party Committee member, Director of the Department of Education and Training; Mr. Mua Chien Thang – Provincial Party Committee member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; Mr. Tran Hai Ha – Acting Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Hoang Van Quyen – Secretary of the Party Committee of Muong Phang commune; along with representatives of leaders from provincial departments, agencies, and organizations, press agencies, team leaders, coaches, and more than a thousand athletes from 60 delegations inside and outside the province.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, a representative of the Organizing Committee emphasized: The 2025 Dien Bien Province Expanded Youth and Junior Mountain Climbing and Cross-Country Race is an annual sporting event with an increasingly expanding scale and progressively improving professional quality, thereby affirming the province's attention and investment in the development of mass sports and high-performance sports. Organizing the event at the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Post historical site has special significance, contributing to the education of patriotic traditions, national pride, resilience, and solidarity among the younger generation.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, delivered the opening speech for the tournament.
This year, the tournament continued to receive widespread attention and support from agencies, units, and localities inside and outside the province, attracting more than 1,200 officials, civil servants, employees, coaches, and athletes. In particular, the participation of delegations from Son La and Ninh Binh provinces added a highlight to the tournament, contributing to strengthening exchanges, learning, and fostering solidarity and cooperation in the field of sports between the localities.

Over 500 athletes from Vietnam and abroad participated in the Pu Tó Cọ Peak Climbing Challenge.

The Organizing Committee presented commemorative flags to the participating teams.
The competition took place over two days, from December 13th to 14th, 2025, and included two sports with a total of 12 events. The mountain climbing competition consisted of four events: men's individual, women's individual, men's team, and women's team; covering a distance of 8 km, starting from the grounds of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Post Reception House, conquering the summit of Pu To Co – a steep and challenging terrain requiring athletes to have good physical fitness, perseverance, and high determination. The cross-country running competition included eight events, divided into two age groups: youth (16 years and older) competing in 10 km for men and 5 km for women; and junior (15 years and under) competing in 5 km for men and 3 km for women, running along the route around the General Vo Nguyen Giap Memorial Area and Vo Nguyen Giap Secondary School.
Through its competitive events, the tournament not only creates a healthy and beneficial playground for young people and the general public, but also serves as an opportunity to assess the quality of the physical training and sports movement at the grassroots level; to discover and select talented athletes to supplement the province's sports force in the future. At the same time, the tournament contributes to the development of adventure sports and outdoor sports, suitable to the natural conditions and potential of Dien Bien province.

The journey to conquer Pu Tó Cọ peak requires passing by the Command Headquarters of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954.
The 2025 Dien Bien Province Expanded Youth and Junior Mountain Climbing and Cross-Country Race also has practical significance in continuing to promote the "National Movement for Physical Training Following the Example of the Great President Ho Chi Minh," gradually increasing the percentage of people participating in regular physical exercise and sports, building a healthy and positive lifestyle, and contributing to improving the quality of life and health of the people.
Beyond its sporting significance, the tournament is also an important activity to promote the image of Dien Bien – a land of heroic history, rich in revolutionary traditions, and deeply rooted in the cultural identity of its ethnic groups – to a wide audience of domestic and international friends. By integrating sports competitions with visits and experiences at historical sites, the Organizing Committee hopes to gradually build and develop a distinctive sports tourism product, creating a new highlight in the province's tourism development strategy, especially historical, cultural, and experiential tourism in Muong Phang and the Muong Thanh basin area.
With thorough preparation, a high sense of responsibility from the Organizing Committee and specialized subcommittees, and the enthusiastic and serious participation of the participating teams, the 2025 Dien Bien Province Open Youth and Youth Climbing and Cross-Country Race promises to be safe, exciting, and successful, leaving many profound impressions on the athletes, delegates, and the people.
