The special topic “Sharp pen, loyal heart” consists of three parts: “In prison”, “Sharp pen, loyal heart” and “Connecting love”. Each part is a realistic and touching slice of life and the steadfast spirit of revolutionary soldiers in colonial prisons, a place that seemed to have only shackles and chains but was filled with faith, revolutionary ideals and the desire for freedom.

The exhibition “In prison” introduces the colonial and imperialist prison system used to imprison Vietnamese patriots, such as: Hoa Lo Prison ( Hanoi ), Con Dao Prison, Big Prison (Saigon), Chin Ham Prison (Hue), Buon Ma Thuot Prison… Despite harsh circumstances, communist soldiers still kept their faith in the Party and the revolution.
The content of “Sharp pen, loyal heart” focuses on portraying the portraits of 10 patriotic and revolutionary soldiers who used their own pens to reflect the reality of prisons and call on their compatriots to rise up and fight. They are Nguyen An Ninh, Nguyen Duc Canh, Hoang Van Thu, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Nguyen Thi Quang Thai, Tran Mai Ninh, Dinh Nho Diem, Thoi Huu, Pham Huong and Nguyen Minh Van. The exhibition records the compositions of poems, articles, and touching letters... written with rudimentary tools, in extremely deprived conditions. These are the "sharp weapons" on the silent front, demonstrating optimism, indomitability and steadfast patriotism.
Reenacting life in Hoa Lo prison of revolutionary soldiers. |
The final part “Connecting Love” recreates the feelings between the rear and the front, from letters and poems sent from the dark prison to the border and islands today. The love of family, comrades, sharing and encouragement from the rear is a great source of strength for soldiers to overcome hardships and continue to walk firmly on the revolutionary path.
The program, directed by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, is an activity to pay tribute to heroic martyrs, while educating revolutionary traditions and fostering patriotism for today's young generation to appreciate and promote the value of peace and independence that our ancestors exchanged with blood and bones to gain.
The exhibition “Sharp pen, red heart” is open until August 31, 2025 at Hoa Lo Prison Historical Site, No. 1 Hoa Lo Street, Cua Nam Ward, Hanoi.
