Explore the "art space" at Gia Lam Railway Factory

NDO - Within the framework of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2023, Hanoi residents and tourists were truly overwhelmed by the art installations displayed at the Gia Lam Railway Factory.

The Gia Lam Railway Factory was established in 1905 under French colonial rule. From an old factory slated for relocation from the city center, the Gia Lam Railway Factory and Hanoi railway stations have been transformed into creative complexes, becoming a place to "awaken" heritage and create new values ​​to serve the cultural development of the capital. The factory houses approximately 10 art spaces and event venues during the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2023 .

The art installation exhibition "The Call" by artist Thu Tran features long strips of paintings, ranging from 40 to 60 meters, suspended from the ceiling of workshop 3B1. Each exhibition is grandly and meticulously constructed, paying attention to every detail. All of this creates a vast space that captures the flow of cultural heritage, the intertwining of old and new, memory and the future.

The long, painted strips made from organza and silk fabric are truly breathtaking.

The artworks made from woven bamboo and rattan by artist Vo Tan Tan come from Hoi An.

These exquisitely crafted items are of particular interest to foreign tourists.

Each artwork displayed here is a painting centered around the theme of nature.

The Gia Lam Railway Factory (also known as the Gia Lam Railway Plant, now the Gia Lam Railway Company) was established in 1905 under French colonial rule. The factory not only served the transportation of goods, with a wide network of agents, but also fostered the exchange of cultures and ideologies, contributing to the formation of the Vietnamese psyche.

Following the renovation, these artworks created a dazzling, vibrant, and magical space at the Gia Lam Railway Factory (Long Bien district) during the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2023.

Ms. Kim Anh (Ba Dinh district) shared: “I like to view artworks at night. Because in the quiet space, I can truly appreciate the beauty and the message the artist wants to convey to the viewer.”

The "Hot Workshop Architecture & Art Space" pavilion showcases artifacts found in workshops and interactive art programs with innovative styles that particularly attract viewers' attention.

Foreign visitors were truly surprised and delighted by this unique art space.

The arts and crafts fair brings together many traditional craft villages, artisans, and handicraft projects by young people, featuring a wide range of ceramics, rattan and bamboo weaving, traditional Vietnamese paper, and more.

The outdoor space is also rich and unique, offering many experiential activities. Within the 20-hectare grounds of the Hanoi Railway Factory , visitors can experience dozens of interesting activities organized in a variety of ways, such as: culinary experiences, handicraft fairs, art creation, traditional craft village activities, and more.

The food fair area is an ideal place for visitors to rest while touring the Hanoi Railway Factory, with its fairly large area.

The Gia Lam Railway Factory is open to visitors. Many locals may know about this place, but have never had the chance to explore it .

Although held in various locations, the centerpiece of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2023 was the Gia Lam Railway Factory (Ngo Gia Tu Street, Long Bien District). Hanoi residents enjoyed the experience of climbing onto the legendary train carriages of yesteryear.

The exhibition "Tu Luc Steam Locomotive," a symbol of the railway industry, is on display within the framework of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2023.

Hanoi residents enjoyed taking photos next to the "Tu Luc Steam Locomotive". Ms. Van (Hoan Kiem district) shared: "This is the first time I've seen a steam locomotive manufactured in 1964. Although it's old with age, it's still very beautiful."

The Gia Lam Railway Factory and Hanoi's railway stations have been renovated into innovative complexes. From old factories slated for relocation out of the city center, these heritage sites have been revitalized to create new values, providing an inspiring space for Hanoi residents and visitors, especially young people.
