The martyrs' temple was built with the money mobilized by the liaison committee of nearly 400 million VND, including contributions from relatives of martyrs and veterans. The temple was designed with a memorial stele placed on a concrete pedestal; the stele is 2 m high, 3 m long, engraved with the full names, units, and hometowns of 61 martyrs who died in the above battle, which have been fully verified with documents and martyrs' records. There is also a blank space on the stele to add the names, hometowns, and units of more than 30 martyrs, which are currently being verified by the liaison committee. The temple grounds are 200 m2 wide, with many shade trees planted, and the land for the temple was donated by Mr. Bui Huu Tuan's family.
In the battle at dawn on May 26, 1972 to collapse Cau Nhi Bridge over National Highway 1, 93 soldiers from C9, C11, C12 of Regiment 88, Division 308 sacrificed their lives right in the garden of Mr. Bui Huu Tuan's parents' house in Cau Nhi village (now Nam Chanh village), Hai Chanh commune. Due to the harsh circumstances at that time, the unit was not able to bring the bodies of their comrades to the rear. The Saigon government army used bulldozers to dig holes and bury all the bodies deep in the ground.
After the country's reunification, Division 308, in coordination with the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command, local authorities and Mr. Bui Huu Tuan's family, organized many searches and exhumations to bring 19 martyrs to rest at the Hai Lang District Martyrs' Cemetery. The remaining martyrs are currently lying deep underground and are being searched for by authorities.
