On the afternoon of February 20th, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Le Huu Hoang led an inter-agency working group to survey potential locations for night markets in Nha Trang City, aiming to boost the local night-time economy .
Accordingly, the delegation surveyed four locations for the construction of a night market, including the area on Nguyen Thi Ngoc Oanh Street (Hon Mot area) in Vinh Hoa ward; the area in front of Vinh Hai market in Vinh Hai ward; the embankment along Xom Con Street in Xuong Huan ward; and the Thanh Nien football field area in Vinh Nguyen ward.
According to members of the delegation, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Oanh Street has several advantages, such as being close to the sea and having less traffic. The street is approximately 260 meters long, with a width of 10 meters, including a 7-meter-wide carriageway and 1.5-meter-wide sidewalks on each side, making it quite convenient; however, it is quite far from the city center. This is also an area where a business had previously proposed building a night market.
Meanwhile, the area in front of Vinh Hai market, with four sides bordering the road, is planned to have 96 stalls for a night market. However, this area is located on Road 2/4, which has heavy traffic and is quite far from tourist accommodation areas.
Meanwhile, the embankment area along Xom Con Street is highly regarded for the development of a night market. Specifically, this route is advantageous as it runs along the Cai River, in the heart of Nha Trang City, near projects and accommodations such as Muong Thanh Khanh Hoa , Welltone Luxury Residence… and close to destinations such as Thap Ba Tower, Hon Chong, and Dam Market...
This area was previously proposed for a night market, but the project was not approved due to the ongoing construction of the Xóm Bóng bridge. The reason is that the Xóm Cồn road section is being used to alleviate traffic congestion during the bridge construction.
Therefore, establishing a night market in this area at this time is entirely appropriate. However, the local authorities must have a suitable traffic management plan to avoid traffic congestion.
Nha Trang City currently has several night markets, but they are small in scale. The largest and oldest is the Yen Sao Night Market opposite the April 2nd Square. However, this area is also being re-planned and transformed into a pedestrian zone and book street.
According to Mr. Le Huu Hoang, every location is suitable for establishing a night market, but each area has its own strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, the Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee requested Nha Trang City and relevant departments to consider feedback and clarify the spatial planning and traffic arrangement to better inform the Provincial People's Committee and finalize the location.
Regarding the night-time economy, in June 2023, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province approved a plan for developing the night-time economy, with the aim of organizing annual events that reflect the unique cultural identity of the locality.
The plan focuses on developing the night-time economy in four areas: cultural and entertainment activities; food and beverage services; shopping; and night-time tourist attractions.
Specifically, Khanh Hoa province plans to organize nighttime cultural and entertainment activities in the Nha Trang beach area, Bai Dai area, and Doc Let area (Ninh Hoa town); and to create pedestrian streets and night markets, entertainment areas, food courts, shopping areas, and street art venues in Nha Trang.
At the same time, there are artistic lighting solutions at Tran Phu Bridge and Xom Bong Bridge, combined with the Ponagar Tower, the Cathedral, and Nha Trang coastal park to attract tourists; organizing night sea tours, Nha Trang night food tours, and night cultural and historical tours…
