Rewarding the hero who saved 3 students swept away by floodwaters

Leaders of Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province have awarded a certificate of merit to the 'hero' who saved the lives of three students swept away by floodwaters.

On December 16, the People's Committee of Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province commended and rewarded Mr. Bui Thanh Tai (39 years old, resident of Duy Trung commune, Duy Xuyen district), who had bravely saved 3 students swept away by floodwaters.

Accordingly, the Chairman of Duy Xuyen District People's Committee awarded a certificate of merit and 5 million VND to Mr. Tai after his brave action in rescuing 3 children swept away by floodwaters on their way home from school in Duy Trung commune.

In addition, Duy Trung Commune People's Committee also rewarded Mr. Tai with 2 million VND.

Before that, at around 5:20 p.m. on December 14, three sixth-grade students of Luong The Vinh Secondary School, on their way home from school, invited each other to wade through the water on the deserted inner-field road from Tay An communal house (An Hoa village) to Le Dinh family temple (Trung Dong village, Duy Trung commune).

This road is flooded due to heavy rain. While crossing the flooded, fast-flowing water, the children and their vehicle were swept away more than 100 meters.

At that time, Mr. Tai was nearby. Hearing the cry for help, he rushed to the scene and saved the students and brought them to shore safely.

According to Mr. Tai, in the afternoon of the same day, he went to his grandmother's house to burn incense and heard a cry for help from a field about 200 meters from his house.

When he arrived, he saw the students struggling in the rushing floodwaters. He jumped into the water and swam out to help the students reach the shore safely. The authorities then took the students home.

Sharing at the award ceremony, Mr. Phan Xuan Canh - Chairman of Duy Xuyen District People's Committee - expressed his respect for Mr. Tai's brave and timely action of saving people and affirmed that this is the heart and noble sense of responsibility of a citizen, a shining example for people and youth to follow.

At the same time, he hopes that this noble gesture will spread further in the community to multiply many good deeds for life.
