It is expected that on January 15, the project to build Deo Ngang tunnel and bridges and access roads in the two provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh will be deployed by the contractor.

On January 8, informing reporters of Giao Thong Newspaper, a representative of the Railway Project Management Board ( Ministry of Transport - project investor) said that on January 15, contractors are expected to start construction of the Deo Ngang tunnel expansion project and bridges and access roads to the tunnel section passing through Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces.

Deo Ngang road tunnel under construction is located on the right of the existing tunnel.

Regarding the site clearance work, the investor representative said that the area north of the tunnel has been basically handed over by the People's Committee of Ky Anh town; the area south of the tunnel in Quang Binh province is actively implementing compensation work for households, converting forest land...

"Currently, the joint venture of construction contractors including Song Da 10 - Long Hung - Huy Hoan Company is gathering machinery in the north of the tunnel to prepare for construction," informed the leader of the Railway Management Board.

To implement the construction of the Deo Ngang tunnel expansion and the tunnel access road, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Vu - Chairman of the Council of Compensation and Site Clearance of Ky Anh town said that the unit must convert the forest purpose of 0.88 hectares, along with paying compensation, support, and resettlement in the first phase for 22 households with an area of ​​3.17 hectares.

The construction of an additional tunnel will share the fire with the existing tunnel that has been in operation for more than 20 years.

"At the same time, the unit coordinated with relevant parties to develop a plan to relocate the 35kV power line, transformer station, fiber optic cable line, telecommunications line...", Mr. Vu said.

To serve the Deo Ngang tunnel expansion project, Quang Binh province also issued a decision to change the purpose of using more than 2.5 hectares of planted forest to other purposes to carry out the construction of Deo Ngang tunnel under the project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1.

The location of the change of purpose is in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province.

Specifically, the purpose of using more than 2.5 hectares of planted forests, including more than 2.4 hectares of production forests and 0.04 hectares of forests outside the planning of 3 types of forests originating from production forests. Location at 23 lots in plot 1, sub-area 150 and plot 1, sub-area 151, Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien, Chairman of Quang Dong Commune People's Committee, said that about 20 households have forest land affected when the project is implemented. Currently, the authorities are only doing the work of measuring and counting.

According to Mr. Hien, because Quang Binh province has just issued a specific land price list, the site clearance work will take some more time.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport approved the Project to upgrade and expand bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1 with a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND. Among them is the Deo Ngang tunnel - the border between Quang Binh and Ha Tinh.

Accordingly, a new 555m long tunnel will be built to the west of the current tunnel, with a width of 10.5m, including 4 lanes. The tunnel is expected to be completed in 2025. When completed, Deo Ngang tunnel will operate 2 parallel tunnels with a total roadbed width of up to 20.5m, providing 4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles.

The Deo Ngang Tunnel expansion project, when completed, is expected to meet the increasing traffic demand on National Highway 1, through Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces.
