Recently, Vietnam has officially affirmed that the development of science , technology, innovation (ICT) and digital transformation (DCT) is the "main driving force" shaping a new growth model - instead of relying on cheap labor or resource exploitation.
A vivid demonstration of that orientation is the decision to assign Ho Chi Minh City the right to host the ICF Global Summit 2025, from December 2 to 5 in Binh Duong ward, a part of Ho Chi Minh City after the merger. This is the first time a city in Southeast Asia has hosted the most important annual event of ICF - an international network connecting more than 200 cities/territories worldwide to promote smart urban development.
This year's event has the theme: "Smart and investment-ready - Transforming Vietnam's economy ", with six main pillars: digital equality, knowledge workforce, innovation, broadband infrastructure, sustainable development and community engagement - completely in line with Vietnam's development orientation in the digital age.

At the opening session on the morning of December 2 with the theme "Accelerating to become a Smart Community", the leaders of the science and technology sector of Ho Chi Minh City clearly emphasized: science and technology are the key to opening a new growth model, opening a new quality of life and opening a new governance structure.
In fact, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing many initiatives in parallel to realize that vision - from dual transformation (digital + green), building and operating a shared data system, applying artificial intelligence in urban management, developing smart transport - logistics infrastructure, to expanding the space for innovation according to the State - institute - enterprise cooperation model.
Ho Chi Minh City being chosen as the host of ICF Global Summit 2025 is not only symbolic but also opens up opportunities for global connection - with more than 600 urban leaders, international experts, technology enterprises, research institutes and investors participating. This is an opportunity for Vietnam to learn and absorb advanced smart urban models, creating momentum for rapid and sustainable development.
Thus, the ICF 2025 event serves as a springboard for Vietnam - with Ho Chi Minh City as the focal point - to affirm its commitment to placing knowledge, technology and innovation at the center of development. If exploited and implemented synchronously, science and technology will not only be a theory, but will become a reality, opening up a new growth model: smart, sustainable, creative and humane.
