On December 1, the An Giang Farmers' Association in collaboration with the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations and World Vision International in Vietnam held a launching ceremony for the Project "Enhancing access to agricultural markets through inclusive business models adapting to climate change for the community" (BASIN Project).

The BASIN project is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with a total budget of 1.7 million USD (about 44 billion VND). This is a non-refundable aid source, aiming to support poor and near-poor households, disadvantaged groups and vulnerable communities facing the increasing impacts of climate change in An Giang.

According to the An Giang Farmers’ Association, the project, which will be implemented in the 2025-2029 period, is expected to directly impact about 6,000 people, including local leaders, officials of the Farmers’ Association, Women’s Union, cooperative members and community production groups. Through training, coaching and technology transfer activities, people will improve their knowledge and skills in ecological agricultural production, improve their income and increase their resilience to extreme weather, saltwater intrusion and other climate risks.

Ms. Than Thi Ha, Director of Strategy, Program Quality and Resource Development of World Vision Vietnam, said that BASIN focuses on building ecological agricultural models, developing inclusive businesses and sustainable value chains. The project is expected to help people connect better to the market, while creating a foundation for replicating cooperative and cooperative group models in a professional, adaptive and environmentally friendly direction.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Andrew Egan, Deputy Head of Mission of the Australian Embassy in Thailand, affirmed that supporting BASIN is part of Australia's commitment to Mekong cooperation, aiming to reduce climate risks and enhance economic resilience for countries in the sub-region. The project is also a concrete step in the development orientation of ecological and multi-value agriculture that the Vietnamese Government is promoting.

The An Giang Provincial People's Committee approved the project from June 2025, creating a legal corridor for the implementation process. In addition to Vietnam, BASIN is also implemented in Laos and Cambodia with a total budget of more than 170 billion VND, supporting about 24,000 people.

The implementation of BASIN is considered an important milestone, opening up opportunities for An Giang to develop ecological, sustainable agriculture and better adapt to climate change, one of the major current challenges of the Mekong Delta region.
