Engineer Ho Quang Cua received a certificate of merit from the Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee for his achievement in bringing ST25 rice to the 'throne' of the World's Best Rice contest three times.

On December 2, at the 1st Congress of Can Tho City Farmers' Association, term 2025 - 2030, engineer Ho Quang Cua was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the City People's Committee for his achievement in bringing ST25 rice to win the first prize in the " World's Best Rice" contest for the third time.

This is a worthy reward for someone who has spent more than half his life researching Vietnamese fragrant rice varieties and persistently pursuing safe production.

Previously, ST25 rice had twice won the "World's Best Rice" contest in 2019 and 2023.

The victory in 2025 has a more special meaning because this is the second consecutive time that the ST25 rice variety produced in the summer-autumn crop - a rice crop considered "difficult" when it comes to weather fluctuations - has once again won thanks to its aroma, whiteness, stickiness and ability to retain its aroma when left overnight.

Mr. Ho Quang Cua shared that the secret to helping ST25 rice grown in the summer-autumn crop maintain its quality is that for many years he has followed the safe rice production process, prioritizing the use of organic fertilizers and biological products. The combination of ST25 rice variety and safe farming solutions helps ST25 rice maintain stable quality and win over consumers.

One of the differences in Mr. Ho Quang Cua’s model is to create conditions for the soil ecosystem to recover itself. When the amount of organic fertilizer is large enough, billions of earthworms begin to appear in the soil. Even though they live in flooded conditions, they still dig millions of tiny tunnels, bringing organic fertilizer to the surface and creating a natural plowing process that no machine can replace.

To date, engineer Ho Quang Cua’s safe rice production area has expanded to 3,000 hectares with nearly 2,000 farmer households participating. Each year, this raw material area supplies about 18,000 tons of safe rice to the market.

Statistics show that the yield of ST25 rice in the model is stable at about 6 tons/ha, the selling price is 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg higher than normal rice. Farmers have better income, businesses have standard raw material areas, and domestic and international markets have high quality products, stable through each production season.

Not only creating economic value, engineer Ho Quang Cua's safe rice production model also helps improve the production environment, reduce chemical residues and guide farmers to sustainable rice production, in line with the goals that the Vietnamese rice industry is striving to pursue.

Within the framework of the Congress of Can Tho City Farmers' Association, the City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City presented 70 billion VND to the Farmers' Support Fund and presented 100 Great Solidarity houses worth 6 billion VND to members in difficult circumstances.
