In preparation for the 2026 Lunar New Year market, the production atmosphere in many craft villages in Thanh Hoa has become bustling these days. From the kumquat village in Hop Tien commune to the flower village of Dong Cuong (Ham Rong ward), farmers are entering the busiest period of the year, racing against time to catch up with the harvest season.
In Hop Tien commune - the largest kumquat growing area in Thanh Hoa province, hundreds of households are busy taking care of kumquat trees for Tet. This time is considered as the "sprint season" because even a small technical error can affect the color and quality of the fruit when the tree enters the most beautiful ripening stage.

From early morning, all the gardens are bustling with the sound of pruning shears and people discussing care techniques. Some are shaping trees, others are adjusting shoots, covering the roots, fertilizing… Each step requires meticulousness and many years of experience.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan, 60 years old in village 3, Hop Tien commune - owner of a garden with more than 300 kumquat trees bearing fruit, said that this year, traders came to place orders very early, so his family had almost no time to rest. "In about a month, the kumquats will have the most beautiful color, so now we have to take care of each tree carefully," he shared.

Similarly, Ms. Hoang Thi Luong’s garden of more than 1,000 kumquat trees is also entering an important stage. Although this year the weather is favorable and the trees are growing evenly, Ms. Luong still has to increase daily pest control and fruit care to ensure quality when leaving the garden.

Many households said that the costs of materials, fertilizers, and pesticides have increased sharply, while the weather is increasingly unpredictable. The storms of September 2025 affected many agricultural production areas, but kumquat growers said that they had made good preparations and applied protective techniques to limit risks and maintain stable tree growth.
Dong Cuong flower village - the largest flower "granary" in Thanh Hoa province - is also entering the most important stage of the Tet season. When the first cold spells of the season come, flower growers have to be on duty almost all day to keep the plants moist, prune buds, pinch tops, prevent pests and diseases, and take close care of each flower bed to ensure they bloom in time for Tet.

Mr. Do Huy Luat (45 years old) grows 200,000 long-petaled and colored chrysanthemums and shares: "The flowers grow very quickly, just one strong sun or cold spell can cause the buds to die immediately."
Ms. Do Thi Thuyet, owner of a garden of more than 40,000 chrysanthemums, said that there are almost no days off at this time. If the flower garden is dehydrated or exposed to cold, it must be treated immediately to ensure that the color and beautiful blooms are maintained when sold.
According to Dong Cuong people, it is not until December that traders start to come to place orders. Therefore, all current work is aimed at the sole goal of ensuring healthy flowers, blooming at the right time, and with the right color.
