
Thai ethnic people in Thanh Phong commune always preserve and promote traditional cultural values.
Thanh Phong commune has more than 9,600 people living with the Thai, Muong, Kinh, Tho ethnic groups, in which the Thai ethnic group accounts for 88% of the population. Through the changes of time and the ups and downs of history, the Thai ethnic group here still preserves and promotes the traditional cultural values of the nation. Many households in the commune still preserve the traditional stilt houses with flexible and airy structures, bringing coolness in the summer and warmth in the winter. Currently, the stilt houses are not only a common living space for families, but also become a typical tourist product, attracting visitors to visit and experience.
Along with preserving the traditional stilt houses, the Thai ethnic people in Thanh Phong also maintain the traditional brocade weaving craft. With their sophistication, creativity, and skillful hands, many Thai women have created traditional costumes and brocade household items imbued with the national cultural identity.
Mr. Dinh Van Phuong, Chairman of Thanh Phong Commune People's Committee, said: To develop the brocade weaving profession, Thanh Phong commune has actively promoted the significance of preserving the traditional brocade weaving profession of our ancestors. At the same time, directing mass organizations to mobilize skilled people to teach weaving to young people. With the motto of the elderly teaching the young, those who know a lot teaching those who do not know, the number of people who know how to weave brocade in Thanh Phong is increasing.
In addition, the Thai ethnic people in Thanh Phong commune also preserve folk songs, folk dances, and unique dances; traditional dishes such as grilled fish, bamboo rice, steamed pork, grilled chicken, rock snails, purple sticky rice... captivating visitors when they come to Thanh Phong land.
Tan Hung village is known not only for its majestic natural landscape but also for its rich historical and cultural traditions of Thanh Phong commune. The Thai ethnic group here accounts for 99% of the village's population. From 1951 to 2018, Tan Hung village underwent many mergers and separations, but the people of Tan Hung still preserved and promoted traditional cultural values.
Currently, the traditional stilt houses, folk songs, folk dances, and culinary flavors are blending with the lifestyle of the Thai ethnic people, creating a great attraction for tourists when coming to Tan Hung village. Realizing the potential and advantages for tourism development, many households in Tan Hung village have invested capital to renovate and build stilt houses, purchase equipment to serve tourists, create jobs, and increase family income. Up to now, Tan Hung village has 24 households building accommodation facilities and providing services to meet the needs of tourists. In the first 10 months of 2025, Tan Hung village welcomed nearly 7,000 visitors to visit and experience, of which more than 3,600 stayed.
Mr. Ha Van Dau, a resident of Tan Hung village, said: "At the end of 2023, I will repair the stilt house and renovate the surrounding area to welcome tourists. To better serve the needs of tourists, my family participates in training courses on tourism and food hygiene and safety. Thanks to tourism development, my family has more income to improve our lives."
To preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group, Thanh Phong commune has been actively mobilizing artisans to restore and stage folk songs and dances for art troupes to serve the needs of tourists and promote the cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group. Encourage households with good economic conditions to boldly invest in tourism development associated with preserving and promoting traditional cultural values. Strengthen the promotion of local potential and strengths, attract investment in tourism development. Establish brocade weaving cooperatives in Lang Ken and Tan Hung villages to produce products to serve the needs of tourists.
