The Danang Center for Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Technology (Department of Agriculture and Environment) coordinates with localities and related units to build and implement agricultural extension models in line with the city's development orientation. Through this, the unit transfers many scientific and technical advances and applies them to local agricultural production, gradually creating a production chain of agricultural products, ensuring output for people as well as providing safe and quality products.

Facing the trend of urban agriculture development, the center has built a high-tech urban agriculture model in a narrow space in the inner city, with the content of vegetable production on the rooftop. The model helps households produce organic vegetables, treat household waste, combine post-planting soil treatment to rotate crops to improve production efficiency, vegetable quality, and reduce pests and diseases. With support when participating in the model, Mr. Dinh Van Minh (Phuoc My ward, Son Tra district) used a rooftop area of over 50m2 to make a vegetable garden of all kinds. He was supported by the center with assembled pots, shelves, fertilizers, seeds, biological products, waste treatment bins, automatic irrigation systems, etc.
“I grow many types of green vegetables such as mustard greens, Malabar spinach, water spinach, squash, winter melon, papaya, etc. Because the planting location is on the rooftop, it is difficult to transport soil and raw materials to high places. However, the vegetable products do not use pesticides at all, the fertilizers mainly use organic microbial fertilizers and microbially treated fertilizers from organic waste sources. Therefore, the quality of the vegetable products is very safe for users,” Mr. Minh shared.
To improve productivity, quality and efficiency in rice production, selecting high-yielding rice varieties is a very important factor. Through demonstration models of new rice varieties, we will introduce and evaluate their adaptability to adverse weather conditions as well as their resistance to pests and diseases, and their potential quality; thereby selecting new high-quality varieties to supplement the city's crop variety structure. In the 2025 winter-spring rice crop, the City's Center for Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Technology will implement a demonstration model of new rice varieties on an area of over 6 hectares with 51 households participating in Hoa Vang district.
New varieties put into production include: OM18 (1ha), BĐ.04 (0.5ha), HG12 (1ha), BĐR57 (1.5ha), TBR97 (2ha). Mr. Nguyen Chau, Director of Hoa Phong 2 Agricultural Production Service Cooperative said: “Cooperative members participating in the model are trained in technical production processes, pest control, care regime, fertilization, etc. by technical staff. Thanks to that, the demonstrated rice varieties have stable quality and yield of more than 6 tons/ha. In the upcoming summer-autumn crop, the cooperative will continue to coordinate with the center to put new rice varieties into production on more than 10ha”.
In addition to the above models, in the field of cultivation - forestry extension, the Danang Center for Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Technology also builds demonstration models, transfers scientific and technical advances such as: experimenting with new melon varieties and breeding Hoa Lien star apple; expanding and developing flower production; developing edible mushrooms and medicinal mushrooms; intensively cultivating fruit trees according to VietGAP standards; processing straw in the fields... In the field of livestock extension, the center builds and expands livestock models in the direction of organic, environmentally friendly, linking the value chain of livestock products; in the field of fisheries extension, there is a model to support the commercial farming of biologically safe black apple snails and improve crab farming techniques in the circulatory system.
Ms. Ngo Thi Thu Van, Deputy Director of the Danang Center for Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Technology, said that over the past time, agricultural extension models have been implemented in accordance with the city's agricultural development orientation. These include developing key products, typical products, OCOP, organic production, applying high technology, urban agriculture, increasing product quality and value. Farmers' awareness has increasingly changed positively about modern production, creating clean products, increasing the value of agricultural products, and production according to the chain.
“In the coming time, the center will continue to coordinate with agencies, units and localities to promote the effective implementation of agricultural extension work, support farmers in building and replicating effective models; focus on developing urban agriculture, high-tech agriculture, organic agriculture, clean agriculture; well implement the motto "where there are farmers, there is agricultural extension". We also focus resources on effectively and qualitatively implementing agricultural and forestry extension models; especially from the stage of surveying the base, making plans, implementing, checking, evaluating, reporting on summarizing and drawing lessons and expanding solutions for effective models when they are completed, ensuring compliance with regulations, practicality, and having specific products that achieve socio-economic efficiency", Ms. Van informed.
