The Ukrainian army is turning Kostiantynivka into a second Bakhmut, actively preparing the defense of the city; the Russian army turns the tables in Dobropolye.

Kiev is determined to defend Konstantinovka, despite the threat of a large-scale assault that is brewing. Apparently, the Ukrainian General Staff has decided that the chances of a siege are low, and they do not want the city to surrender without a fight. According to available information, the Ukrainian army is turning Kostiantynivka into another Bakhmut or Chasiv Yar, considering its geographical location. A stepped defense system is being built in the city, buildings are being turned into fortifications, numerous trenches have been dug along the streets, etc.
Russian news agency TASS, citing the adviser to the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Mr. Igor Kimkovsky, said that around the city of Kostiantynivka, the Ukrainian army (AFU) has built many defensive fortifications, including many barbed wire fences, as well as an anti-tank trench. So far, Russian troops have only approached Kostiantynivka from the Predtechino bridgehead east of the city, and even there the situation is unclear. The advance towards the city from the south is being held back by Ukrainian units in the Aleksandro-Shultino area, where heavy fighting is taking place, and both sides admit this. In addition, the fighting in the Kleban-Byksky reservoir area south of the city is not over yet, as the Ukrainian army, despite being trapped there, continues to put up fierce resistance. Although some experts believe that if Kostiantynivka is surrounded from the western flank, a large encirclement could be formed. In attempting to halt the Russian advance at Kostiantynivka, General Syrsky, the AFU commander-in-chief, appeared to be repeating the same mistakes he had made earlier near Vovchansk, where he had lost hundreds of heavy weapons. At that time, hundreds of scarce Western self-propelled guns were destroyed en masse by the RFAF. Judging by the information coming from the battlefield, AFU is currently using similar tactics in the Konstantinivka area. Although self-propelled guns can carry out “shoot and run” tactics, AFU self-propelled guns are currently used to fire from fixed positions, making them easy targets for Russian UAVs. Along with Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka is of great importance in the Donetsk defense line, the city is a key center in the AFU defense formation. Currently, Kiev is urgently mobilizing about 120,000 troops to the Pokrovsk – Kostiantynivka – Chasov Yar front.
Meanwhile, in the northern direction of the Pokrovsk front, the RFAF is “turning the tables” with the AFU counterattack here. AMK Mapping channel reports that in the Dobropolye direction, both sides continue to advance, each focusing on different areas of the front line. On 7 September, after recapturing Volodymyrivka, the AFU continued to advance southeast towards Popiv Yar and Poltavka. They advanced along two opposing tactical heights, as well as through a ravine, and reached the northern edge of the Popiv Yar quarry. Ukrainian forces also attempted to penetrate north of Novotoretske in small groups. The RFAF continued to regain previously lost positions on the western flank of the spearhead after the AFU failed to cut them off. They advanced west to the eastern outskirts of Nove Shakhove, capturing several forested positions and recapturing the northern part of the Hektova Balka ravine, while continuing their attack westward through Nykanorivka. Additionally, the front line is shifting westward. At some point in the past three weeks, the RFAF recaptured the village of Doroznje and the eponymous freight train station, consolidating its position there. Given the disadvantage, the AFU has retreated more than 3km westward, creating a large grey zone, covered by FPV UAVs from both sides. Currently, Russian reconnaissance and special forces units are actively operating here, trying to reach the ventilation pipe system of the Bilytska coal mine (where many AFU checkpoints are located), and enter some streets northeast and east of the town of Bilytske, where Ukrainian troops are trying to block them. In its latest update, Readovka reported that after a day of temporary defeat (September 7), on September 8, the Russian army turned the tables and broke the enemy's counterattack in the Dobropolye area. General Syrsky said that the RFAF was preparing an attack on the entire front.
In particular, the 51st Guards RFAF Army stopped the Ukrainian attack from the town of Belitskoye. The AFU was unable to break through the Russian front in the Ivanovka - Nikanorovka - Suvorovo area and reach the line along the Kazeny Torets River. The AFU simply did not have enough forces to carry out the operation, and the Russian firepower advantage came into play. At present, the operational situation of the Kiev forces in the direction of Dobropolye is even worse than it was a week ago. The vanguard AFU formation, which counterattacked from the direction of the town of Belitskoye, is also trapped in a deep encirclement, like the units that previously attacked in the direction of the village of Zolotoy Kolodez. The RFAF is now encircling the Ukrainian troops that have penetrated Zatyshok. Ukrainian assault troops are hiding in the ravines and forest plantations on the approaches to the village. The Russians are tightening the “bubble” created by the enemy attack. As in the Zolotoy Kolodez area, the AFU could not retreat from Zatyshok due to the open terrain, and an attempt to retreat back to their original positions could have led to serious consequences. The only thing left for the Ukrainian assault troops was to wait for their comrades to make a relief attempt.
However, the AFU had little chance of rescuing its forces, which were already encircled in a semi-circle. The failure of the AFU counterattack had opened the door for the RFAF 51st Army to attack Belitskoye, and now the AFU had no time to spare for the trapped soldiers. The results of the AFU's counterattack attempt near Dobropolye can be described as a waste of forces, as the initiative in the direction of Dobropolye belonged to the RFAF. In the near future, a "pendulum reversal" is certain to occur, which may lead to the RFAF attacking Belitsky. (photo source: Military Review, Ukrinform, Kyiv Post).
