At the 50th anniversary of the first issue, SGGP Newspaper was honored to receive congratulatory flower baskets from General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , Central Propaganda and Education Commission, City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
Affirming its role as one of the leading political newspapers
The ceremony opened with a warm story from the first journalists of SGGP Newspaper. They were poet Hoai Vu and musician Truong Quang Luc. They met emotionally. In 1963 (the country was still divided at the 17th parallel), engineer Truong Quang Luc read the poem "Vam Co Dong" by poet Hoai Vu published in Van Nghe Newspaper, and that night, he immediately composed the poem into music.
Poet Hoai Vu was overwhelmed with emotion when he accidentally heard his poem set to music, sung and recorded, and broadcast on Voice of Vietnam Radio. That “meeting” was like a connecting thread, and after the country was reunified, poet Hoai Vu and musician Truong Quang Luc both returned to work at SGGP Newspaper.
SGGP Newspaper was born on May 5, 1975, just 5 days after Saigon City and the South were liberated. The first generation of SGGP Newspaper employees such as musician Truong Quang Luc, poet Hoai Vu... from many different positions gathered together, all with a deep sense of responsibility so that SGGP Newspaper always shines, always be the pride of the people of the city and the whole country. That awareness has always been passed on, becoming deeper and deeper for the next generations of SGGP Newspaper employees.

In addition to its main location in Ho Chi Minh City, SGGP Newspaper has been widely distributed in the Mekong Delta region, the southeastern provinces and many large provinces and cities in the North and Central regions.
Over the past half century, not only has the role of SGGP Newspaper been affirmed as one of the leading political newspapers in Vietnam, the main political newspaper of Ho Chi Minh City, but the role of SGGP Newspaper has also been clearly demonstrated through social and charitable activities. Especially the annual social programs, the tradition over the past decades such as: Ton Duc Thang Award, Truong Son Affection Program, Vietnam Golden Ball Award, Vo Truong Toan Award, Good Literature Award, Nguyen Van Huong Scholarship, Green Enterprise Award, Lighting up the Faith - Overcoming Difficulties to Go to School Program... Currently, SGGP Newspaper publishes the following publications: SGGP Daily Newspaper, SGGP Hoa Van, SGGP Investment Finance, SGGP Electronic in Vietnamese, English and on other digital platforms.
During 50 years of establishment and development, SGGP Newspaper has been honored to be awarded: 1 Third-class Independence Medal; 2 Third-class Labor Medals; 1 Second-class Labor Medal; 1 First-class Labor Medal and for many consecutive years received certificates of merit from the City Party Committee, flags from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee...
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first issue, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee awarded certificates of merit to the SGGP Newspaper and 26 individuals who had outstanding achievements in information and propaganda work to carry out the political tasks of the city's press and publishing system. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded the Traditional Flag to SGGP Newspaper.
Bringing the Party's ideas closer to the people
Congratulating the SGGP Newspaper team on this special day, Comrade Nguyen Thi Le, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, commented that from the first difficult and challenging steps, SGGP Newspaper has continuously grown, affirming its position as one of the country's key political press agencies with a modern press-media ecosystem. SGGP Newspaper also affirmed its pioneering role in orienting information, building trust, creating social consensus, encouraging revolutionary action movements and spreading the aspiration to develop the city.
Over the past 50 years, SGGP Newspaper has made a strong impression with a series of outstanding achievements. "The Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee believes that SGGP Newspaper will continue to fulfill its mission well, making an important contribution to the sustainable development of the city and the whole country", Comrade Nguyen Thi Le confided. She also believes that SGGP Newspaper will always be the leading flag in information and propaganda work, contributing to realizing the aspiration to build a civilized, modern, happy, and affectionate Ho Chi Minh City; together with the whole country, entering an era of growth, strong development, and prosperity.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Le advised that SGGP Newspaper should continue to build a strong newspaper in all three aspects: information and propaganda, journalism economics and social activities. The newspaper must also constantly promote digital transformation, innovation and application of advanced technology to diversify press products, strongly spread the Party and State's guidelines and policies, and actively contribute to orienting correct and accurate information in the social community.
He hoped that SGGP Newspaper would continue to be a trustworthy voice, bringing the Party's ideas closer to the people, increasing sharp critical journalism works, strongly fighting against false and hostile arguments, and actively protecting the Party's ideological foundation. The newspaper also needs to have products that reflect social life, create closeness and connection with the public, and meet the information needs of all classes of people. At the same time, further spreading humanistic values, the spirit of mutual love, and working together for the community, contributing to creating more impressions of a city of love...
Comrade NGUYEN TRONG NGHI, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission: Promoting the glorious tradition of 50 years of accompanying the country and Ho Chi Minh City SGGP Newspaper celebrates the publication of its first issue in the jubilant atmosphere of major festivals. I hope SGGP Newspaper continues to promote its strengths, strongly adapt to the digital age and fulfill its role as the leading political newspaper of Ho Chi Minh City. I believe that the staff, reporters, editors, and workers of SGGP Newspaper will continue to promote the glorious tradition of 50 years of accompanying the country and the Party Committee, government, and people of Ho Chi Minh City; continue to cultivate moral qualities, many bravery, actively study, innovate, and create to contribute to the country's journalism in general and Ho Chi Minh City journalism in particular. As the main press agency of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country, SGGP Newspaper needs to focus on propagating the major contents that the Central Committee is focusing on implementing, such as the contents of the 11th Central Conference, in order to create high consensus within the Party and consensus among the people on implementing the "revolution" of streamlining the organizational apparatus in the spirit of Resolution 18 of the 12th Party Central Committee; propagating to the entire population, in which Ho Chi Minh City strives to take the lead in socio-economic development, contributing to the whole country achieving growth of over 8%, aiming for double-digit growth. At the same time, perform well the role of an agency participating in the main press team to propagate the Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Party Congress. |
