Effective intercropping
Mr. Que's garden of more than 1.3 hectares grows many types of trees: Jackfruit, coconut, mango, 100 trees of each type; durian 250 trees; rambutan, plum, 50 trees of each type; grapefruit nearly 300 trees; pineapple about 3,500 trees; tangerine, star fruit, 50 trees of each type... All types of trees are planted in straight rows, divided into areas, following the intercropping model, each season has its own fruit, and is harvested every day.

Although Mr. Que's garden has many varieties, they are not grown spontaneously but are all selected according to the motto "taking short-term to nurture long-term". Among them, Thai jackfruit trees are easy to grow, easy to care for, suitable for local soil, bear fruit the fastest (after 18 - 24 months of planting), can be harvested year-round, have high productivity, and a fairly stable selling price, helping the family quickly have income to reinvest. Mango trees need more time than jackfruit, when harvested, they will continue to supplement output and diversify income sources. Durian trees are the latest to be harvested, but he has identified them as the main crop, with the highest economic value, bringing in breakthrough income when entering the stable harvest stage...
With this method, in 2022, after only 2 years of establishing the garden, his family harvested jackfruit, averaging 400 kg per week. In addition to Thai jackfruit, his family also has a steady income from pineapples, rambutans..., several dozen to hundreds of kilograms per week. Currently, mango trees also yield 2-300 kg per week. In addition to growing fruit trees, Mr. Que also divided the area into ponds to raise fish and chickens, forming a systematic garden - pond - barn model. Up to now, it is estimated that his family has invested about 200 million VND in seedlings; from 2022, the income will be about 200,000 - 300,000 VND/day and will increase gradually each year.
Appropriate farming
Mr. Que said that in 2020, this land was planted with acacia trees, and because it was located in a low-lying area, it was often flooded. He and his wife, one a doctor and the other a retired teacher, did not have much experience in farming. Therefore, Mr. Que actively researched documents, asked for technical support from many sources, participated in cooperatives, and technical training courses organized by the farmers' association. He mobilized capital from his family, borrowed preferential loans from the Farmers' Support Fund and the Social Policy Bank. After that, he rented a machine to level and raise the land; hired people to install a modern irrigation system to effectively manage water resources; planned the planting area; recorded detailed crop diaries; strictly controlled the use of pesticides, prioritizing biological measures; signed contracts to purchase products; registered to establish a fruit tree production group...
Not only does it develop the family economy, Mr. Que's intercropping fruit garden model also creates income for 4 local workers. Ms. Ca Thi Nghi (44 years old, Da Trang village) said that she has been weeding here since 2020, earning 250,000 VND per day. Thanks to that, she has the conditions to take care of her husband who suffered a stroke and raise her children to study. Ms. Ha Khue (30 years old, in the same village) also has a regular income thanks to her job of taking care of plants in the garden.
Mr. Pi Nang Coi - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nam Khanh Vinh commune said that Mr. Ha Que is a typical example of the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, applying science and technology to production. His comprehensive fruit growing model is an intercropping model that thoroughly applies the principle of "taking short-term to support long-term", in which 3 types of trees: Thai jackfruit, mango, and durian have more stable output than traditional crops. Mr. Que also has many practical solutions to overcome initial difficulties when first establishing the garden, which are highly appreciated by the Farmers' Association of the commune. At the end of 2024, the Thai Ha Que jackfruit product was recognized by the People's Committee of Khanh Vinh district (old) as achieving 3-star OCOP. This model has brought outstanding economic efficiency to Mr. Ha Que's family, helping him become a good farmer and business member at the commune level, opening up a new direction for many people in the village, proving the effective conversion of crop structure, contributing to the construction of new rural areas.
